Hello dazuk29! Try not to be be too shell shocked though it was that feeling for me also, when I discovered I had HepC last November! There seem to be quite alot of waiting time inbetween the various clinic appointments..blood tests (viral load and genotype), ultrasound scan, fibroscan, plan for which drug treatment will be best for your situation. I used the time waiting to look after myself as best as i could....immedietly stopped all alcohol (but NOT my social life!), ate the best diet I possably could for the liver and general health, and some enjoyable walking to keep fit! The drug options today seem to have moved on in leaps and bounds and I for one am extremely thankful my HepC was discovered now and not say 3 years ago..I live on the borders of England and Wales (so about a big hour from Birmingham) and here just in Wales..my treatment was 8 weeks , one tablet a day of harvoni. I started in April so it took about 6 months from 1st diagnosis to start of treatment. I was very lucky to have no "side"effects...and my energy and well being feels great..not completely out of the woods..although my liver tests are now normal....it is 3 months after end of treatment..to be more certain! Harvoni has 95% cure rate. Also...I am told..there are new drugs due for December time with 100% cure...! Best wishes for this worrying time...just focus on getting well!

Bought my own treatment after waiting a year on the NHS cost about £1500 as I remenber from the buyers club was cured in one month with no side effects however my liver is damaged. My advice is do not wate - the Freeman Hospital at Newcastle monitered my blood after my own doctor refused -I had to skipe Australia to import the medicen as the NHS refused even a letter for customs.

Good luck ! Paul

I don't know a lot about the process as I've just started with n.h.s. basically you get out on a three month waiting list for treatment.

I know how you feel, when my GP told me the diagnosis I could not believe it

I replied am I going to die I was so unprepared for the news I did not know any one else who had been diagnosed

I felt so alone I could not tell anyone, because I felt ashamed there is a such a stigma attached to hep C, you know what people are thinking "isn't that what prostitutes and drug addicts get" these are the same small minded people that have had unprotected sex with numerous partners in the past

I have been through the whole thing the 9 months of the ribavirin and Interferon which did not work for me, I was devastated

However I got on a drugs trial at Kings Hospital, I did 12 weeks of medication no side effects

I have now been clear of HEP C for 18 months and I am considered cured

Kings Hospital liver department is fantastic I feel so lucky that I was treated by them

you can beat this just like I did, there is so many new drugs

The worst thing for me was that I did not have anyone to talk to about it

I regret not joining a support group

Good Luck you can do this I promise you

You are not alone but this is your journey and no one can tell you how you should feel

If you do treatment and it fails ask your hospital to put you through for drug trials

That's how I got cured do you know what kind of drugs you will using for your treatment

It took me 8 weeks to become clear, it may take you longer or shorter but you should be clear at the end of treatment! I had a few belly aches, some mild headaches but they dont last too long and to be honest they weren't that bad!

Don't worry hep c will take from 20 to 30 years to kill u or it might not even do that and the treatments now days are 95% succesfull and have hardly any side affects and are only 12 to 14 weeks long and are just a tablet... I would worry about it to much just get yr self on the treatment list

When i was diagnosed with hep c 15 years ago my G.P said most people die with it not because of it. Also there are hundreds of thousands of people out there undiagnosed.

Times and treatments have changed im still untreated but hope to get NHS onboard with my health soon
