Hi Fahy , First thing is don't panic ! Hep.B is a slow progressing disease that can have serious consequences if left untreated , but it takes quite a while to get to that point so you should have time to get this sorted out .
Personally I found the literature that the NH hand out about Hep.B to be misleading . Their take on it is that most people will shake the infection off without a problem . Yes this may be true in a lot of cases , but is not helpful to those sufferers who can't do this .
Now that you have a diagnosis the doctors will probably make a decision on a course of action depending on your viral count . If your count is low they will most likely leave you to see if you can get rid of the infection by yourself . Whilst your viral count is low they will also likely want to hold off treatment as there can be some nasty side affects from the drugs used to treat this condition .
Long term ; If the viral level rises above low level infection there is a risk that it can damage your liver leading to liver failure and even cancer . Toxins that are produced may damage cognitive function of the brain and also the kidneys . Some damage is reversible with treatment , but if the condition is too advanced it may not be .
Hope this helps , I must point out that I'm not medically qualified so please check things out for yourself . Lastly , one symptom I had which I have not seen mentioned anywhere is that the infection caused me to belch all the time - don't know if anyone else has found this ?

Any questions , come back and ask . One point I didn't mention , and I'm sure you are aware , is the possibility of passing the infection on . You need to be carful for other people . Might also be a good idea to have a full STI health check , if you haven't already .
Already had,that's how I know have hep b ....being referred to liver specialists waiting appointment
I was diagnosed HIV and Hep.B . My Hep.B viral count was off the scale then . Now it is undetectable . All the scans I have had have come back fine .
The worst thing you can do to your liver is drink alcohol , so stay off the booze !
Thanks yes I know.... booze is a no no...I did enjoy a glass of red wine in the past

Check your liver stiffness with Fibroscan, you will get the actual status of your liver.
I found about my hepatitis b back in 2015,had first fibroscan 10.1 kpa, last year 10.4 and another one 2 months ago, 11. Under treatment back 2016.
