Hi all,

I'm about to be confirmed Hep C positive by my GP. Please can someone talk me through the process from being confirmed positive right through treatment to being cure again hopefully. I know I picked it up in the last 15 months since I last tested which was negative and I don't know I contracted it as all the obvious possible explanations I've not participated in.

I'm extremely concerned for I'm my wellbeing and my mental health is taking a massive impact. Please tell me I can be cured of this horrible virus.

I'm thank for discovering this forum. But still struggling for much needed knowledge on this virus.

Thanks all in advance.

Hi yes you can clear this virus 👍 it’s pain free and only 1tablet a day for 8 weeks or so. There’s nothing to be ashamed of seriously once you get your head around it you’ll be fine. It’s a shock at first but trust me everything is going to be 👍

Your GP will refer you to a hepatologist.

There could be a a couple of months wait depending on the area.

Once you are seen by the hepatologist they will order more blood tests (to find the genotype, viral load etc.) and a fibroscan (to look for any liver scarring).

Then they will arrange the treatment for you.

The good news is most people clear the virus with the new treatment options. The side effects are minimal in most people. You will need to take the medications for 8 or 12 weeks usually but it will depend on the medication and investigation results.

Best thing to do now is to not read up too much about the condition. Leave it with your GP and hepatologist and wait for the cure.

Please don’t worry 😉 there is nothing to worry about or be ashamed of this virus has many stigmas attached to it but there are many ways of catching it. I was the same panicking about how I caught it will people find out am I going to get poorly but the answer is NO! Treatment is so easy these days to getting your scans done to blood test. Once that’s done they work out what medication is best and how long to take it. I took 1 tablet a day in the morning for 3 months that’s it!! That’s how easy it is to cure. I got no side effects nothing. However some people do maybe a few headaches but nothing major but you will get talked though all this. I hope I have helped a little and there’s no shame or anything to worry about.

Hi I was in the same situation many years ago. Unfortunately for me I required a liver transplant, however a few years after that I was put on the new treatment. An oral cocktail of drugs. The course lasted 24 weeks and it completely cleared the virus. Hep C is not the death sentence it used to be.All the best for the future.

It cleared it but still have the antibody in your system.
