good morning! I went to the doctor yesterday and was told that I was positive for hep C... he sent me over to have additional blood work . I asked a lot of questions trying to control my shock ..he said that my liver panels looked good from the previous blood work I had a month ago. I've had no symptoms.. I really don't know how I got it ? I don't know how long it's been floating around inside me.. I noticed back in January I had problems with my thyroid he put me on Synthroid hundred mg. I'm not really sure what path I'm going to take. I've been gaining weight although I am somewhat active.. I have horses so obviously I have to do things I'm 60 and feeling good although suffering with bouts of depression due to the fact of losing my only child 4 years ago... so I think there are several issues going on.. I've been doing quite a bit of reading and I understand that sometimes you have to do a wait-and-see attitude but I'm scared. my lover that I had over the last 8 years did have Hep C however I know there was no risky sex but I can't figure it out! I have three tattoos that I had done probably 25 to 30 years ago I've always been extremely healthy although heavy because I have a sweet tooth but other than that really no complaints. I am confused.. I don't drink and I've never used IV drugs I'm just scared really scared

Hi, sorry to hear this. Try not to get too stressed as you may be hepc positive but be virus free, if you've ever had it even unknowingly your blood will show antibodies, the body can clear it by itself. If you do have the virus there's lots of new drugs now that clear it very quickly. Like you no idea how or when contracted the virus. Possibly c section /transfusion for me 30 yrs ago. However we get it, the virus doesn't discriminate, good to hear you have no symptoms. that's a positive sign. Hopefully your blood test will show no virus but if so the new meds will fix it fast, best wishes, navs 😍

Hi livineeze

Firstly don’t worry. You’ve had a diagnosis and now you’ll have follow ups, so you’ll learn more about it.

I was about 60 when I was diagnosed. I’d been getting symptoms for years. Seven years on ( and trusting my consultant to wait for the right treatment to come along ) I am now clear.

I also don’t know how I got it. Like you, not an IV drug user and only one sex partner for 30 years (who didn’t have Hep c). Suspect from working in a hospital that had some dubious hygiene / cleaning issues at the time but I reckoned it didn’t actually matter how I got it as long as I got rid of it.

Try not to be scared but do rely on your doctors to help and inform you. It may be a while before you get treatment depending on your viral count and state of liver ( which sounds ok)

And speak to the people on this page I didn’t discover it until I was cleared but wish I’d found it sooner. We’ve all got our own stories.

Good luck with everything
