Heart playing up again after pharmacy switched brands of propranolol :(

hi. i recently had a refill of my 40mg propranolol tablets, which i take 3 times a day to control what would be severe heart flutters that plague me off and on all day. i had been taking the accord brand for ages, and it seemed to be working well, keeping my heart flutters at bay for the most part. however, they recently switched my brands to Teva and Noumed, and BOTH of these seem to work like placebos - i take either of these brands, and my heart plays up again as if i never took anything.

has anyone else had this happen? and what did you do? i am really bad right now with my heart fluttering like mad. so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

This happened to me and the doctor tried to fob me off saying that all Bisoprolol are the same, they are not!!! I was on the same brand for ages then I couldn't get it from my pharmacy I went driving round the area and every single one didn't have the brand I wanted.I ended up with a different one and my heart had been playing up since!! I just hope it calms down soon.

Maybe have a word with the pharmacy and see if they can call the suppliers?

I Hope you get sorted x

I also think my palpitations are to do with my hormones as I have symptoms of perimenopause.

I always insist on having the brand Accord for most of my pills. Other brands don't keep my heart in check. I asked my GP to list the brand on my prescription which he did.

At the pharmacy I used to go to, it was always a big deal to get that make and I'd sometimes have to wait 10 days. I changed to Boots and they can get that brand in for the next day if they don't have it in stock already.

Tablet brands do differ in their contents and what can have an effect on me with pills is the colours blue or red - they make me a bit hyperactive, so I can't take them at night.

Hi Jean,Is Accord a UK brand? I've had Sandoz and that's been ok, but I'd rather have a brand from this country.

Thanks x

was also gonna say that I find Boots to be magnificent. the pharmacy staff and the chemists at my local boots are all really lovely, and i'm sure they'll make effort to have the Accord brand in stock if i ask them. they're so different from the moody cows at my GP surgery lol. thanks again.

I agree with Izzy and Jean. Different brands are not the same. And generic drugs are not the same as the brand names. My friend tells her Dr and pharmacists she doesn't want any drugs from China. Hard to do since 80% of pharma drugs are made in China. India has been caught several times by our FDA here in the USA for putting too many fillers in their meds they manufacture. Just have to hope you are getting decent meds. That's when you rely on your pharmacist more.Hoping you get it straightened out. Take care. Be safe.

I had exactly the same thing happen with my PAC's, 4 x 20 mg of propranolol/day.

I discussed with my pharmacist and we went back to the brand that worked. He made sure he has the brand that works for me in stock.I have very helpful pharmacist I can talk to.

Even though they say all brands are all the same, they are not.

Find the brand that works for you and stick with it.I hope this helps,

Michael

any idea how long it takes from the time you go back to your good brand, until your heart calms down and the flutters stop? by late yesterday afternoon i managed to get my GP surgery to write me a prescription for the accord brand, and i had it filled, and started taking my old brand from dinner time, but rest of that evening i was still quite bad. so maybe it takes a day or two for your heart to settle?
