I started taking magnesium three months ago for a chronic pain condition. Reading other posts it looks like I’m taking the wrong one for heart function support as I’m taking magnesium oxide so I’m going to change over.
I occasionally get sharp fleeting pain in the centre of my chest when I have the ectopic beats and then I find the anxiety very difficult to deal with. One cardiologist told me he had seen “Captains of Industry” brought to their knees by the type of ectopics I was experiencing! All very well but didn’t help much with the anxiety.
I’m hoping being in touch with others who are experiencing this problem will help me to get things back into perspective. After all, as I said in my previous post, I’ve had them a long time and I’m still here!

🙂I don't get any pain when I experience my ectopics.. which I have 100's a day. But I've had them for 40 years and I've always been told they are harmless and not to worry. Easier said than done..even after all these years. I started taking Magnesium Citrate about 2 months ago. So far..I haven't noticed any change. My mag level is low, so maybe time will tell once my level is built up.
Hi, I was told years ago but a top cardiologist to take Magnesium, but alas I didn’t follow his guidance, but for the last month I’ve been taking magnesium citrate , as I’ve suffered since I was 30 from ectopic beats, they have taken over my life sometimes...had so many tests, always told they are not dangerous , but iam 68 end of week and I’d like a bit of peace when I go to bed some night, as that’s when they seems to start up 😩Well touch wood, I’ve hardly suffered with them last couple of weeks , which is handy because I had my covid jab this afternoon and have been dreading having my ectopic beats come on ...fingers cross they won’t 🙏🏻 Iam a born worrier also, I’ve read others on here say it help with anxiety too..I’ve never had a pain in chest, but my left arm aches when I get them bad...which I always thought I was going to have heart attack, but gone off to A&E umpteen times over the years and it’s been panicking that brought it all on! Do you mean you had them in the cupboard for 6 years ? There probably out of date 😃 nothing to be scared about taking them , honestly. I ordered mine on Amazon , been taking them 3/4 months now , I suffered from ectopic beats for 30 odd years ! But I actually go to bed without having the extra beats or fluttering now 🙏🏻 , feeling so much better !
6 yrs of ectopics. Sorry! Testing 1.5 yrs ago and today o had a holter and another echo. Always been told Ectpics. What took you so long to try? How far in on the 30 yrs did you try
I was told by a cardiologist about 15 years ago to take them but didn’t take any notice 🙄Just reading about people on this forum made my mind up !! So kicking myself for not listening all those years ago !
As I have posted before, two months ago I started taking Magnesium Citrate 200mg twice a day and in three days it stopped my early morning anxiety of 35 years which is what I started taking it for. Time will tell whether this is the placebo effect.
Then about three weeks later my 10% ectopic beats ceased after having them every minute of every day for 12 months. That was over a month ago and they have not returned.
Sensing a connection with the Magnesium Citrate I discovered that there is clinical evidence that it can be beneficial for all forms of arrhythmia including Atrial Fibrillation.
Thank you Jeff, I shall change to citrate. I’ve been taking oxide but from what I’ve read I don’t think it is absorbed as well. I’m struggling at the moment with the anxiety although I’ve not had anywhere near the number of ectopics I used to get. I sometimes get a sharp, fleeting pain in the centre of my chest with them and that’s what exacerbates my anxiety. Has anyone else experienced this?
From what I have been told the Citrate version is much, much more effective than the Oxide version. So it reduces anxiety and can eliminate ectopics all in one little tablet costing pennies. I am sure you will find it helpful.I have not experienced the sharp pain in the chest, it could be your mind reacting to tension in the chest muscles (which is a common symptom of anxiety) when you feel a missed beat but it's best to talk to your doctor about it. Wishing you the very best in the future.
Hi Jeff1943, I have been taking Chelated Magnesium (as bisglycinate, oxide) from Solgar which works as a laxative for me. I suffer from atrial fibrillation and I think I will switch to magnesium citrate now. Thanks for this piece of advice.☺️
Hi Morningrose, yes, I had 10% missed heartbeats for many, many months. Then 2 weeks after starting on Magnesium Citrate the missed beats stopped. I kept taking the magnesium citrate but about 5 months later the missed beats returned. But I kept taking the tablets daily. After about 5 months the missed beats stopped again and my heart rhythm returned to normal. That was over a year ago.I suppose it works well for some and less so for others. But the original suggestion to take MC did come from a cardiologist.

I had a bad experience with Bigeminy rhythm and found out my potassium was so low it wasn’t even in the acceptable range. I have now adjusted my diet and it’s better but not totally normal yet.
