Just wondering if having SVT makes me part of the vulnerable group of people. I am a teacher and am becoming increasingly concerned about whether the symptoms and risks will be worse if I contract it. I've looked on the NHS website and can't find any information about this condition. I don't want to ring 111 as I know they will already be inundated with calls. I tried asking my doctors receptionist to find out for me but as soon as I mentioned coronavirus she wasn't interested and told me to look on the NHS website, which I did but to no joy. I just want to stay safe and am following all the precautions but am still going to work every day. I look forward to any advice that you may have. Many thanks

I don’t know for certain but I had a google and arrhythmia falls under heart disease so I would say you fall into the 12 week isolation. Again, I don’t actually know for sure
I am a member of support staff in a large secondary school and also have SVT. My concern is that infections often trigger SVT and therefore surely this does put us at heightened risk? I cannot find any specific information though.
Hi. I am very interested by this question. I’ve had Svt all my life. I had an ablation last year and since then I’ve had episodes of fast heart beats. 24hr monitor picked up a short burst of atrial arrythmia lasting for 13 beats but consultant has no idea what it was so I now have a loop recorder fitted. I also have autoimmune thyroid disease as well. It’s such a worrying time for everyone. I work with the public. Many of which are coming from abroad so like you, I would like to know if I am at a higher risk. Let’s hope we can find some answers 😬
Phone your GP. I just did and expressed my concern re bad arrhythmia episodes last year possibly due to a virus and whether the condition of arrhythmia is considered heart condition falling within risk. Was told yes, which I don’t think I expected! So I’m now following the guidelines for vulnerable groups and trying to arrange working from home. Pulling my children from school tomorrow. Fortunately I did a big shopping before I phoned the GP!
I'm glad you were able to get a response. I might ask to speak to my GP as I'm still not getting clarification on this. Its very confusing and worrying all at the same time. I'm glad you're sorted though. Stay safe
I can imagine that but clearly the GP is taking no chances! For me it’s the fever part that I’m wary of not that I’m a higher risk of complications with the lungs.
Yes - yet again conflicting view points - how can we possibly know what we should be doing for the best? I'm not expecting it to be part of the vulnerable groups category but then when I hear that other people are self isolating with the same condition it worries me that I'm not!
I bet it solely depends on the condition of your heart - the results of your echo and stress test if you had one, as well as the type of arrhythmia your heart can go into. If you have a dangerous arrhythmia and/or an abnormality in you heart, I'm sure that would qualify as a little higher risk. But I am no doctor, just guessing.
I've never had a stress test but did have an echo a couple of years ago and that was ok. I also had a failed ablation a couple of years ago. I think I worry more because I'm now in my 50's so the risk gets higher the older you get!
I would think you would be a high risk, because this virus attacks respiratory. I also would request a doctor's appointment to consult directly with my doctor. Our schools here in Washington state are all closed. Praying you don't catch this Corona virus🙏
Our schools are closing from Monday so I've only go to go in 2 more days so I'm praying I don't get it either. However, I sent 2 students home today from my class as they were continually coughing so that is a worry! I will try to speak to my doctor tomorrow to try and get a definitive answer.
i had emergency heart ablation surgery in october 2020 for severe tachicardia. I have received emails from the cardiac team (Wales) saying im high risk. My husband had quadraple heart bypass 16 months ago has already been sent home from work for isolation. I already have a nasty (NOT coronavirus) chest infection and my gp rang me at home to isolate. with schools they are likely to close by friday 19.april 2020 but you ARE high risk so self isolate.good luck

Hi, I had an ablation for my SVT in March last year after being diagnosed a year earlier. I couldn’t tolerate beta-blockers as they made my HR drop too low. A HR of 25 recorded in an ambulance. I have been fine since my ablation, but am currently self-isolating with my daughter who is very unwell with symptoms of Coronavirus and my heart has started acting erratically again. It jumps to around 130 bpm whilst just sitting and has shot up to 180 a couple of times. I’m not sure if it’s anxiety/stress or effects of a virus both of which my cardiologist said could cause my heart to create new dysfunctional electrical pathways. I’m not showing any symptoms of the virus but listening to my daughter’s constant cough and not being able to ease it for her is upsetting.
I’m not asking for advice, just sharing how this appears to be affecting my SVT. Take care everyone 😊
