I've been taking magnesium for over a year, no problems. It's stopped by irregular heartbeats I had been getting previously before taking magnesium. Consult your cardiologist

I was so sorry to hear you're feeling scared. Magnesium has really helped me too so I can recommend it but as you're feeling worried it might be best to discuss it more with your doctor and ask her what type/dose she suggests for you to put your mind at rest. I intially took stack doses of Magnesium Citrate (which I wouldn't tell others to do) as I was so anxious about my heart irregularity, but as the ectopics improved I cut the amounts down and now take just 125mgs of Magnesium Citrate twice a day (only once a day if I'm feeling fine). I'm wondering why you're so worried about taking any so I do strongly suggest you ask your own doctor.

Ive asked Dr so many times , she said any type even electrophysiologist said the same thing. My own research i got magnesium glycinate by pure encapsulation as its fpr sensitive. Im scared mag will make them worse . Im on thyroxine and monitored by endo and think is ot my thyroid but dr says no as results are in range even though the thyroid party of health unlocked will day otherwise. I just stare in fear. Ive been using magnesium spray for 2 weeks but just want them gone i feel to scared to live with them. Did you have them and if so for how long did they dissapear with the mag?

Yes I can really understand how you feel and am so sorry to hear you seem to have had so little good advice from the professionals to put your mind at rest. As you've got other health issues I'd be concerned about recommending anything specific but am surprised they're telling you your ectopics can't be related to your thyroid problems. I had very severe problems with heart irregularity which lasted for about 15 months. I thought it would never end but it has improved a lot so don't lose hope! I still get short bouts but they don't last and I've learned to manage them and not be anxious. I do think anxiety makes them worse so relaxation definitely helps, though that's easier said than done! Realising they are not life-threatening or related in any way to Heart attacks or heart defects really helped me and I hope it will help you too. I've learned various self-help things to do and also watched Dr Sanjay Gupta's (cardiologist) youtube videos, which helped a lot. Realising you're not alone helps too- there are lots of us.

Ive done all that. I go to the endo he says you are in range so where are they coming from? What happened to you? How did they get better. I'm so scared been 5 years!

5 years is a very long time to feel so anxious and have had so little reasurance. I do think tackling the anxiety itself helps as I still get it quite badly when I'm anxious. I did a relaxation course and learned breathing exercises. Having had all the tests to show there was nothing actually wrong with my heart my doctor taught me the Valsalva Manoevre, which sometimes helps during bad bouts. I learned my 'triggers' so I eat little and often, not big meals, which make it worse. I do take Magnesium daily and have taken very large doses in the past (not the advice of my doctor). I try to avoid sleeping on my left side. I can't say these techniques work all the time or would work for everyone. Definitely I would say tackling your anxiety is the main thing and I'd recommend getting help with it from your doctor and trying a meditation/relaxation course. Also visit 'Headspace' online- it's an NHS site which can be really helpful.

I even went as far to see another 4 endocrinologist spent 1000 dollars amd all said the same. Your labs are good. Palps are not related. So what do i do where do i go. I'm so scared when they happen im not living.

I'm in the UK so the approach may be different but in the end it's only a good doctor and a lot of self-help which can help I think. Have you considered having Counselling if your own general doctor isn't helping with your anxiety? Other than that I cna only recommend going online and seeking out self-help methods, which is what I did. There are a lot of Youtube videos and good realaxation sites to go to for advice. I use the One Giant Mind and Headspace apps to help me relax when I feel bad. My conditon has improved slowly, but not altogether, using these methods. Accepting it's just a heart glitch which is not life-threatening has enabled me to just learn to live with it and try to ignore it, even though it feels horrible at the time.

was magnesium thr changer?

starlight26 in reply to Contra21

I felt that it was but obviously can't say 100%. Lots of people on this site do take it and feel the same. No bad side effects either.

What helped you? Can you tell me your story?

starlight26 profile image
starlight26 in reply to Contra21

I've pretty much told you everything which helped me in my other messages I think. I started with severe irregularity which was constant about 18 months ago, had all the monitoring, cardiac tests, scans etc, but was told my heart was physically normal and it was just a ventricular problem, which is not dangerous, just very unpleasant. It's improved slowly- I still get it but in much shorter bouts- and as I say, I've kind of learned to live with it. I found it easier once I knew I wasn't about to die, which is what if feels like doesn't it?! Good luck with yours.

Hi again, so having ectopic, started magnesium 3 days ago. How long till it starts working? I'm on 120mg a day..

Hi again, So sorry to hear you're still suffering from the irregular heartbeats. I'm afraid I don't think there's a quick fix or anything which works for everyone. I took Magnesium Citrate 750mgs for 6 months, but I also tried a lot of other things I'd read about that helped other people, like eating little and often rather than having big meals, giving up caffeine, doing breathing exercises and avoiding sleeping in a flat position. My doctor also taught me the Valsalva manoeuvre, which I think helped. I still have bouts of ectopics sometimes but not all the time, like I did before, and I don't worry about it as much. I do hope you find things which will help you and that your doctors help to put your mind at rest. Good luck.
