Beta Blockers

As I was in good physical condition and organically had no problems , I had a surprise when I was diagnosed as displaying AF. The ECG displayed no major problems but definitely AF ,all blood scans and pressure good. At present my sleep cycle is bad and adds to the side effects of the Bisoprolol which are aggravated by my NHS diagnosis of Atypical Chronic fatigue due to chemical sensitivities incurred by exposure to chemical agents whilst in the Middle East. (Kings College Hospital 2007) However I still manage to exercise sensibly with no adverse effects other than noting onset of fatigue earlier than usual. I would like to hear of other peoples thoughts on exercise programmes. I have been 3 months on the pills and presume things are going to take time. I suppose it's a matter of keeping one's temper when trying to sleep and avoid not going " bananas !! ".

Regards to all

I couldn't tolerate bisoprolol, the side effects were too numerous and it didn't help as much as I hoped. I switched to propranolol and it's not perfect but it's better. It depends what your issue is though.

Hi,

Thank you for your email. I will give things a bit longer then try a change of pill as the side effects are at times various and quite profound. Nice to get the names of other brands as communications with GP's can be difficult .

Regards,

Zep.

It's worth looking into how the different betablockers work. I have an issue where basically my body randomly dumps adrenaline into my system whenever it feels like it which gives me tachycardia and prefuse sweating, amongst other things. Propranolol is an adrenaline blocking betablocker which is why I think it works better for me. I do however still suffer in other ways sometimes. My 2 bigger triggers are caffeine and tiredness. I feel exhausted most of the time and have intolerance to exercise. Propranolol has definitely helped to decrease my heart rate and blood pressure. HR hasn't been over 100 bpm in a while now. Used to be 120 a lot of the time even on bisoprolol.

Hi, Thanks again for your reply. It was most interesting as I don't seem to have much to worry about at present other than lack of knowledge. Despite having had excellent service from all sections of the hospital in 13 hrs., I have had to go to my clinic to acquire some information on next steps such as an outline of an online care plan. Result was a download of six pages on Atrial Fibrillation ! Regards Zep.
