worried about ablation

I am new to this site. I have had Woolf Parkinson White Syndrome since birth, but have never had a problem till this March where I had fast heart rate and was taken into hospital. Drugs were used to try to get my heart to normal rhythm, but did not work so had to have a Cardio Version which did and has been alright since. I was given Apixaban and Bisoprolol as a pocket pill if I needed it but have not had to use it. On my next visit to my consultant he said my only way forward was ablation which I was surprised as in 65 years I have had no problems, but he is very insistent. I also have another health problem which is Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome which is very rare my blood vessels are not formed properly in my body especially in my groin and thighs which I have told him, he has not seen any of these. I went to see my GP as I did not think this other health issue was taken on board and she said I could have bad bleeding and must impress this on him. So as you can see I am very worried about this and this week have had my appt. come through for October. I would appreciate your opinion on this matter as I do not want to make my BRBNS worse than what it is.

Many thanks in advance.

I have to admit that I know nothing about Woolf Parkinson White Syndrome, but I can't see why you are being rushed into having an ablation after one episode of a fast heart rate. I think I would ask to have it postponed and see how you get on, you can always decide to opt for one later. The decision has to be yours though. I have no medical training just the experience of having had 3 ablations and still have AF.

Thank you for replying.I am surprised about this too.My consultant said this is the way forward ,he is very clever person but I feel a bit lost when talking to him.I would not have worried about this until I was told I could have severe bleeding due to the BRBNS I asked him if he wanted to see the problem I have and he said no.I am going to see GP again to refer me to someone understands my problem lets hope a CT or MRI can sort things out.Hope your heart behaving itself.

I know WPW can be very serious. I was speaking last year with a client I’ve known for many years. When I said I had some electrical heart problems he said his first wife died from electrical heart problems. She has WPW (that was the first time I’d heard of it). She was 36 with three young kids and an ablation had been discussed but she felt she’d managed things well to that point so wasn’t really worried - she had a cardiac arrest one night at home. I don’t want to be an alarmist but if your doctor is talking about an ablation I’d go for it. I know deaths like this are very rare. When risks are stated it may be 1 in 100,000 so the odds are good except if you’re the 1. I’ve had 4 ablations for SVT, Atrial Flutter & AF.

Thank you for replying.Sorry to hear about the lady who had the WPW.I understand your view,I would probably would go ahead with the op; if I did not have the other medical condition in which my blood vessels are not formed properly and my GP said I was at risk of severe bleeding.I hope if having a ct or mri will show if I can go ahead.Have your ablations helped your condition.?
