Palpitations

I regularly suffer from heart burn and this affected my heart rhythm sending it into palpitations. (Which I accepted) Usually after a visit to the toilet my heart rate returned to normal reliable levels 60-70bpm. However, heart rate is all over the place high 90's 78,84,110 etc. Taking meds biseprolol 2.5 mg which keeps hr to lower levels but still hr is erratic!! Now waiting for cardiologist appointments. Any similar experiences out there??

Your heart is not in a happy place right now, you need to get it back to normal. How to do this depends on what is causing it to misbehave so you will have to take the catch all approach until you see your cardiologist.

Rest, do not lift anything heavy, try not to bend too much. eat foods rich in magnesium and potassium, drink plenty of water, do not consume alcohol or caffeine (tea coffee chocolate etc) or eat spicy foods. If your on PPIs take a magnesium supplement (not magnesium oxide) before you take the PPI, you could take a supplement anyway. Try and get at least 7 hours of continuous sleep each night and drink a glass of water as soon as you wake. Take an Epsom's salts bath using at least 4 cups of the salts in a hot bath and soak for at least 20 minutes. Try not to get involved in anything stressful. When your heart starts to misbehave try this breathing technique - lay back at about 45 degrees, breath in deeply (your stomach should puff out) for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 8 seconds then breath out for 7 seconds through a small hole (made with your lips), repeat 10 times. breath normally for 1 minute and if necessary repeat.

I have a very similar problem! This actually started for me last December. I’m 27 years old, have never had an issue with belching, burping or acid reflux, one day, I randomly started getting burps, Which was uncommon for me. I started getting palpitations and sometimes pvcs when I would feel heart burn, I would get skips (heart flutters) , but mostly a faster heart rate, when I would burp or take an acid reducer, it would all stop and my heart rate would go back to normal. Now I sleep with Tums in my night stand. It doesn’t happen every day, but when I do. I turn to some sort of acid reducer and that usually does the trick for me. I saw my cardiologist on the first of July, mentioned it to him, he acid reflux can be causing this, something about a nerve getting triggered. But he wasn’t concerned or worried. Let me know what your cardiologist says! Curious to see what others have to say about this. I’ve sorta learned to control it now that I’ve gotten used it it. I try and avoid spicy food, tomato sauces, super greasy foods.

Thanks for that info. Never heard of the term pvc’s but it sounds exactly what is going on with me. I recently (2 months now) started taking antihistamines and I’ve read that this can cause increased pvc’s. I always get pvc’s when I had an acid reflux or heart burn episode but pvc’s always go away immediately the next day- but not this time. Really appreciate the info. Going to cut out antihistamines right away and will let you know how it goes with my forthcoming appointments re anticoagulant clinic - physiology clinic - cardiac specialists! 😀
