Any ideas? Ticker playing up.

Hi, I’m just trying to find out if anyone has a similar condition to me.

Around 15 years ago at the age of 22 I experienced my first “incident”. My heart rate went from resting rate of around 55bpm to around 200bpm in literally the click of my fingers. This occurred whilst sat reading on the sofa at home. Around a minute later it returned to resting rate, again in seconds.

These continued with no pattern or trigger.

I was under a cardiologist who, if I’m honest, didn’t seem to believe what I was saying.

I wore a monitor for a week and did not have a repeat of the complaint within that time. ECGs showed nothing untoward.

I was pretty much left to live with it without a diagnosis.

These incidents have continued for the last 15 years, againwith no pattern/trigger or regularity ( sometimes 3 a day sometimes a fortnight without having one)

I am currently awaiting an appointment at the local cardiology unit after fainting ( I’ve never lost consciousness before) and work (serving police officer) will not allow me to perform my duties without being checked over once again.

I have several recordings of my heart rate fluctuating as described, albeit on an Apple Watch. While I know these clearly aren’t medically approved at least it’s something to show the cardiologist should I be met with the same scepticism as last time.

I’ve literally just had one just prior to writing this. Heart rate went from 60 to 171 in seconds, remained at 171 for 40 seconds and then back from 171 to 80 in 6 seconds.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul, so many things could be. I have SVT and it acts like that, bam then stops. But would hate to direct you in a wrong direction. The concerns are the passing out, and with ecg, they can do monthly ones, so you wear for a month. But there are other tests too worth for anyone, like a echo, stress echo etc to rule out heart structural issues before focusing on the electrical issues. Hope some of that is useful. But, I can't stress enough, if you experience a doctor you feel that doesn't believe you, get a new doctor. Best wishes

Print all the high heart rates from your Apple Watch and have them on paper for your Cardiologist. They are super easy to print. Also you should see an ECP. I’m not a Dr. and I’m not pretending to be one, but by what you said, it sounds like SVT.
