Bisoprolol to verapamil.

Hi everyone. I used to be on propranaol for 13 years for SVT and pvc's however they stopped controlling the ectopics so cardiology swoped me to bisoprolol. I went up 6.25mg but didn't like them as they made me constantly tired, breathless and did not touch the ectopics. 2 days ago cardiologist swiped me again to Verapamil 40mg x 3 daily. My heart rate has increased, ectopics still present but I now get headaches too. My question is, does anyone have a similar experience and how good was verapamil at controlling the ectopics. Any advice would be helpful as I am at my wits end with them. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul

Was on verapamil for 25 years for svt and it worked !! But a year ago started getting loads of ectopics lasting hours and changed to bisoprolo 7.5 for ectopics started at 5 mg but needed to up as was still having to many ! Definitely big difference as long as I don’t eat a lot at meals and alcohol makes them go on for hours

Constipation on verapamil and would get headache if I did not eat till late morning

Was on 120mg x 2 my cardiologist said they were not a rythum drug and would not work for ectopics

Hi. Thanks. Not sure why cardiologist said they weren't a rythmn drug as they treat some arythmias as I recall? However cardiologist differ in opinion massively so you are at mercy of whoever you get. Bisoprolol did not control my ectopics at all and made me feel so tired and breathless

Hi again

Sorry what he said was verapamil was very good for svt but would not do anything for ectopics as it was a calcium

Blocker , if u had great success on B.B. for ectopics then maybe try another brand ( good luck ) they are horrible when they go on for hours very hard to

Ignore x

Hi Paul

I have loads of ectopics and tried bisoprolol, verapamil and Flecainide, none really worked. I use Nebivolol and it seems to work much better for ectopics. Give it a go would be my advice.

Good luck with this plague!

James

Hi James and thanks. It is a nightmare to contend with. I am going to stick with verapamil for now as I feel better in myself, much better than on bisoprololl with more energy it is just not controlling the ectopics. I will see how I get on? I here very good things about nebivovol. Cheers Paul

Hi Tia. Yes it has been brilliant. My only problem is my heart rate has gone up and when I walk etc it goes quite quick. Guess it doesn't control the rate as good. But sure stopped the ectopics. Have just upped from 120 to 160 a day. So we will see? Good luck

Hello

I've been on verapamil from 22 to now 58 . It did a great job on SVT but I got breakthrough and eventually my consultant ablated me as he said my palpitations would just get worse. I'm now cured but still on verapamil to block a pathway returning. I was always told nothing will get rid of ectopics . They are so much worse when you are anxious . I get them with coffee white wine . Sadly I don't think they can do much for them . I was so relieved to get rid of SVT as I'd go into panic mode. I hope that sort of helps ? Thinking of you Fiona

Hi Fiona. I too have had svt and ectopics for years that have controlled my life and made me feel miserable. My started last year with major stress and they became uncontrollable which is why I was changed. It has been a cycle of trying beta blockers at various strengths with no results really. My SVT doesn't bother me and is not awful I can control it. It is the ectopics that drive me mad, well and in my opinion a rubbish cardiologist last seen 3 weeks ago.

Hi Paul I'm calling you Paul !

Yeah I totally get it . I get diazepam off my gp it calms me down and stops my heart playing about as mine is definitely due to anxiety or coffee etc . Now that's another subject diazepam we know it's addictive but it works . I get my script every month and every 6 months me and the Dr have the same old convo . He gives in cos I have no intention of stopping it. I ask them would you like to try SVT or ectopics? I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy !!!!

Diazepam, yes I have some too at the moment, but getting it off the Dr is like rock horse poo. Some gp's flatly refuse to issue it. My last one wouldnt so I binned him off. He had no understanding of my problems changing from one tablet to another and wouldn't help in the interim. I was literally begging him for them to help short term but he wouldn't. Thankfully I have a different dr who is more understanding and not so militant.

Are the GPS driving us to the black market ??!!!

I came off Bisoprolol last year because they made me feel like a zombie, I did have an increase in my heart rate for a while after but it is normal now about 64 to 78 beats

Was on verapamil for svt and totally stopped it

Last few years started getting ectopics and would last all day (crazy) times was changed on to bisoprolo as was told best drug to go on and safest for both problems and apart from real hard drugs with serious side effects then not much choice : after a few months of feeling 100

& ectopics reduced things improved
