Hello,

No pain during procedure, just slight tugging etc, slight pain afterwards as meds wear off, just keep paracetamol on hand and keep movement to left arm to a minimum for a while, you'll be fine.

Good luck

Don’t worry too much honestly it’s over before you know it.. pain minimal with Local anaesthetic. I don’t do pain and if I can do it lol you’ll be fine. Be kind to yourself after, especially for first couple of days. Then just give yourself time to heal and get your head round it all.. let us know how you get on Jen x

Hi acrogirl,

No pain at all. Mine you I was completely under when I had mine done, so I was more drowsy than painful. You may get so tugging on it as it heals, but nothing to write home about. Good luck & welcome pacemaker club X

Quite seriously, no pain, no tugging afterwards and, four years on, only a very slight hairline scar. good luck pjr

Wide awake during my implant. Had quite interesting and amusing conversation with the theatre staff at the time! Just felt slight tugging. Bit sore once the meds’ wore off, but nothing paracetamol couldn’t fix. 3 years later I’m absolutely fine! Had more pain with a headache. Welcome to the battery powered club. ( oh, and you get celebrity treatment at airports too!)

I’m in the US and I agree with all the other posters before me. Twilight sleep during the procedure and could feel only tugging and pressure. Recovery was slight soreness that acetaminophen took care of nicely. Hardest part was not being allowed to raise my arm to wash and dry hair until the leads were firmly implanted in the heart. The only other was some tenderness as a woman from the bra strap. I managed to pad the strap or just let that side drape over shoulder until healed. You’ll do great!

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your replies....got the call early friday morning and had my surgery about 12...a bit rough as doc didnt give me anything from the 'bar' (sedative) he said we'll see how it goes....took 2 hours and was a difficult procedure as problem with entering the vein. Was home at 6pm... Feel much better and pain killers helping with pain, just glad its all over! x

I had a pacemaker in 2011, and they are replacing it this week.

They told me that repositioning the atrial lead had a one in two hundred mortality... is that right?

Are pacemakers any better or different to how they were in 2011?

My late wife always wanted a remote control for my pacemaker, so she could turn me on or off as required.
