SVT im afraid.....

So i thought i had anxiety and i do but tonight and the last month straight i have had episodes of really fast heart rates. 160s to 180s..... They happen suddenly and seem to stop pretty quickly. I have anxiety already, can these things kill me..... I was dead asleep tonight and woke up to a heart rate of 186..... My bp was 180 over 100, it scared the hell out of me. It came down by the time the ambulance got me to the E.R. i dont want to go back to sleep now....... Im sorry you all... Just worried, im only 31....

Hi, I was diagnosed with SVT last year, like you mine happened all of a sudden and I had no idea what was happening to me, was admitted into A&E. i am now 2x ablations. completely understand that you don't want to sleep but believe you me rest is important!!! If you have anxiety already keeping yourself calm is important and taken care of yourself.

Talk to your doctor as there are coping strategies on how to deal with SVT. Yes I have SVT but I do lead a normal life and most importantly I take extra care of myself i.e. Rest when I am tired..

I hope this helps a little but as I said if your really worried seek medical advice.

Good advice from louise-b. Also learn the breathing techniques to control SVT as I have stopped many an attack through the Valsalva method. (It is kind of like holding your breath and straining as if constipated!) to put it bluntly. If an attack happens then try to stay calm as this will help you. Tiredness is definitely a trigger also so sleep and rest are important. xx

I found I have Wolf Parkinson Whyte symdrom at the age of 40 now 49 and have had beats to 230 lasting up to 45 mins 2-3 times a day. Saw cardiologist and he wants an ablation but not for me yet. I changed my diet, no caffiene at all (it can trigger episodes) and train 4-5 days a week, weights and cardio. Also have 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil a day to help heart and now really only get svt once a week for about 10-20 seconds. I just try and relax, sit down and deep breath slowly. Louise-b has good ideas. See ur doc and cardiologist but do try and relax there is help out there. Good luck

Hi, I have had it for 47 years and my friends mum is over 80 and she's had it all her life. It's a pain in the neck. Just look after yourself. Lifestyle changes: no alcohol, smoking, caffeine including chocolate, less stress. Follow your doctors advice. I carry betablockers but haven't had to use them yet. If it kicks off, find somewhere to lie down, close your eyes and relax. Go and get advice about relaxing e.g telling each part of your body to relax, being aware of your breathing. Also, tell someone nearby you have SVT. Keep a quick explanation on a bit if paper to hand. Don't talk while you are resting. Other advice is to have a very cold drink of water or splash your face with very cold water because all mammals have a reflex to do with going into water which slows the heart beats down (whales have it).Other people suggest massaging the side if your neck (get medical advice about that one because you are basically stopping blood rushing in your artery). My doctor says if it is a real nusiance you can have an operation to do something to the nerves in your heart. My personal experience is that it often kicks off if I stretch up or bend over. It is often if I am hungry and not been able to eat, or if I have had to eat quickly and not digest my food properly. I actually burp after the attack stops. Try and notice what starts yours. Keep a diary. If you are scared while is happening, or if it is going on a long time ring for medical advice. It is better to be safe. Good luck and don't worry there are plenty of people living with it. My consultant has it and has a fit bit on his wrist type thing linked up to a phone app so he can track it. If you like technology give it a try it makes you feel more in control.
