I am struggling to cope with sensory hearing loss in my right ear. After having evoke test there is no activity to my brain from this ear at all. It happened in about 3 stages over last 9 yrs. having problems with my sight too, but evoke test showed normal.

Does anybody else have this problem too please ?

Hi Poppyseed, I too am deaf in my right ear since a ride with Meningitis in 2011. I also have vestibular embalance in both ears that has not totally resolved with rehab. This makes me at risk for falls. I was advised at the beginning that there is a hearing device that can take the sound waves coming from the right side and loop them over to the left and to not let anyone talk me into thinking that they can bring sound into that right ear. It is kaput! I was also told if I decided to go with the sound looping device to do it soon as my brain would become used to hearing from one side and the longer I waited the harder it would be to get used to it. I didn't have the thousands that it cost so that was that.

I talk loud, at least that is what my adult children say. I listen to loud TV. I have to have no background noise to talk on the phone and actually hear what my caller is saying. I say pardon me a lot. I avoid large gatherings as I only get bits and pieces of conversation. I find it stimulus overload.

I love the fact that I can now totally drown out my husband's snoring just by rolling over. I don't have to be disturbed by thunder storms and I can rudely ignore annoying people and blame it on my deafness. So you see there is an up side to this. Humans are resilient beings and in time I have adjusted to these limitations. Good luck!

Kind Regards,

Jeffery

Thank you for your reply 🙂

I live in the UK and lucky enough to get the bicross hearing aid on the NHS. It helps, but sound direct can still be confusing. I only have to use one ear plug now to drown out my hubby's snoring, lol !

My driving licence was revoked though due to my virtigo and imbalance, oddly I re applied in January and now it's revoked due to medication I take to stop more blood clots and pain relief for spine problems. Bus and train pass for me now.
