I suffer from COPD and use the NHS prescribed puffers.I feel that with the lack of sleep at night and the lack of progress leading to improvement I am prepared to consider non drug alternatives e.g. Mucolyxir. Any comments?

What kind of alternatives? The reason many so-called therapies are called 'alternative' is because there is no good evidence they do work and no reason to suppose they can. Some are also associated with serious harms.

No. The reason they are alternative is that there is no good evidence they are efficacious. And the NHS doesn't 'endorse' treatments. The reason they *may* be less harmful is because many of them simply do not work: but the harm for many is that using them may delay perhaps urgently needed proper medical treatment.

Your anecdote is worthless: it is unverified and unverifiable. As the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council put is:

"It is not possible to tell whether a health treatment is effective or not simply by considering individuals’ experiences or healthcare practitioners’ beliefs. One reason personal testimonials are not reliable is that people may experience health benefits because they believe that a treatment is effective. This is known as the ‘placebo effect’. Another reason is that healthcare practitioners cannot always tell whether changes in a person’s health condition are due to the treatment or some other reason. For these reasons, medicines must be tested in a planned, structured scientific research project designed to prevent these kinds of experiences giving the false impression that a medicine is more or less effective than it really is."

After the most comprehensive review of the best evidence for homeopathy, they concluded:

"Based on the assessment of the evidence of effectiveness of homeopathy, NHMRC concludes that there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective. Homeopathy should not be used to treat health conditions that are chronic, serious, or could become serious. People who choose homeopathy may put their health at risk if they reject or delay treatments for which there is good evidence for safety and effectiveness. People who are considering whether to use homeopathy should first get advice from a registered health practitioner. Those who use homeopathy should tell their health practitioner and should keep taking any prescribed treatments.”

What hype? What tablets? The hype for homeopathy? There's certainly plenty of that.

Vitamin A (with retinoic acid in it) and vitamin D3 are known to help COPD and even turn around Emphysema. Using these vitamins on a certain dose has helped both my Mum, her COPD has been downgraded to mild by her Doctor and another neighbor's COPD/Emphysema has also far improved and is not have so much breathing problems. Her friends and family have commented on it.

My Hubby's asthma is also lessened and he is off the preventer inhaler, now rarely takes his rescue inhaler he use to take daily.

For COPD and Emphysema vitamin A helps renew the aveoli (airsacs) in the lungs.

My husband was diagnosed several years ago with emphysema. He was able to quit smoking and we stayed on top of any illness. He has been hospitalized with pneumonia every year. His breathing has been getting worse but oxygen levels stay in the 97 to 98 range except when he's in hospital. For a year now he has been passing out. It is only for 1 to 3 minutes and was only when he would start coughing. The doctor changed his medications around but he passes out when breathing a bit hard. Also his feet swell up and are numb all the time. He then started using a cane. i searched for alternative treatment before i was introduced to Health herbal clinic by a friend here in the United states she told me they have successful herbal treatment to Emphysema and other lungs diseases. I spoke to few people who used the treatment here in USA and they all gave a positive response, so i immediately purchased the Emphysema herbal formula for my husband and he commenced usage, its totally unexplainable how all the symptoms totally dissapeared, his cough was gone and he no longer experience shortness of breath(dyspnea), contact this herbal clinic via their email healthherbalclinic@ gmail. com Or website healthherbalclinic. weebly. com. Herbs are truly gift from God
