So i started my elimination diet today and had a big plate of vegetables and brown rice and chicken breasts and ever since i ate them i've been tired, bloated and have a headache. This seems to be a common occurence with me when i eat lots of vegetables, does anyone know what could be causing this? It's very disheartening as i am trying to do the right things and eat healthy yet i get symptoms like this after eating vegetables.

Hi healthiskey, please don't remove gluten just yet, as part of your elimination diet, you need to keep eating until you get the results of your coeliac blood test. If the test is positive, you have to still be eating gluten, so that you can get an endoscopy to confirm a coeliac diagnosis.

In terms of the vegetables, it could just be a bit of shock from the fibre. Keep a food diary, so you know which vegetables are the main culprits, try different veg tomorrow and see if you get the same reaction.

Wow im surprised you remember that and yes i got lots of tests done back then and they were all in the normal ranges. After that time i decided to just put all my focus on my mental health as i had given up on the physical health since everything seemed to be fine on the tests. I went to a psychiatrist for the last couple of years and ive been on most medications. I'm pretty sure my gut is just extremely messed up and when i load it with lots of fibre i get these reactions maybe. I'm not sure. It's all so confusing and i'm very lost but i'm still trying. It's very complex because theres mental health issues going on and lots of physical symptoms too which seem to be triggered by how i eat.

And yes i will post my test results on here this time.

There are other possibilities, besides fibre, it's just that it's too soon to narrow them down. Look for the trends, like high histamine foods:

High/low FODMAP foods (which feed small intestine bacterial overgrowth - SIBO)

There's also high oxalate foods, which also may upset SIBO:

Unfortunately to rule any of them out, you'll probably have to be uncomfortable for a few days, while you get enough information on what you've been eating to see the trends. But hopefully you'll start to get an idea soon!

There was a diet plan i followed for only two weeks a several years ago and i felt amazing after just two weeks but for some reason in my mind i dismissed it and then i went on holidays shortly after and drank and ate junk food and ruined it and never went back to it but now i can't remember what diet plan it was. I think it might of been anti histamine or anti inflammatory diet plan. It involved foods like mushrooms, goats cheese, turkey bacon etc i think. its hard to remember.

It's tough to know. Goats cheese is high histamine, so it might not be that.

It can be tough sticking to intolerance diets, I did one and really rebounded afterwards, so don't beat yourself up about it. Plus apparently we crave the foods we're intolerant to the most (especially cheese in my case).

I think high fibre foods might be an issues. I had some high fibre cereal this morning and felt awful for ages after it and just now recovering. Also when i was eating unhealthy foods like white bread, etc i was feeling a lot better probably because theyre low in fibre?

Quite possibly.

I know when I started my intolerance diet, there was a little spell of "die off" where the bad bacteria were killed off and the good bacteria wondered what was happening!

I think it was also a bit worse, because I had some SIBO: healthline.com/health/sibo-...

Yeah but I have had periods of eating healthy where I done it consistently for several months and my symptoms progressively got worse

I notice after i drink black tea i feel tired and sluggish a lot of the time. Theres just so many different foods that could be an issue it seems almost impossible especially when my mental energy and physical energy levels are extremely low. One diet says eat bananas, another says don't eat them... etc. I'm so tired and fed up of feeling like this. I'm 25 years old and i haven't had much of a life because of these issues. Spent most of my life stuck in my room with no energy to do anything.
