Good afternoon everyone. This is part of my lunch today.

Since we have the new poll about fruit in the Summer months that Hidden posted today, it gave me an idea for what to do as a dessert for my lunch. I had cut up fresh black cherries πŸ’ and blueberries 🫐 on the side. I also had tuna and pine nut hummus as the main dish. The entire meal was: 19 carbs. with the fruit. With the hummus on its own, it’s 4 carbs..

Hi Leah, your cherries and blueberries look really good so perfect after tuna and point nut hummus. 😊

Thank you, Hidden . We got both cherries and blueberries earlier this week. It's been a while since we were able to get the cherries, so this was really great timing. :-)

I may try to add the blueberries to my waffles for Sunday if we have any left. :-)

Thank you! I enjoy having tuna and hummus mixed together as a substitute for mayonnaise. Less fat and low carb..

I love cherries Leah (and blueberries of course), are those as sweet and juicy as they look? 😊

They were very juicy and we had to be extremely careful when my mom was helping cut the cherries up. The blueberries were kept whole and left in the container for the water to not get everywhere. It's a nice 'fruit salad' with two types of fruits. We also have peaches, but we would have to cut them up more since they are medium sized. :-)

Several years ago we had a greengrocer shop here and he used to sell huge dark cherries - they really were huge and so delicious - when you bit into them the juice would literally squirt right out, they were also so sweet and tasty. Unfortunately the shop closed down and I haven't ever been able to get cherries of the same class since. The ones I get now are nice, but nothing like the others were.

That reminds me of a few places where we go for certain fruits, too. We find a certain fruit we like and then a store changes how that fruit tastes. It's interesting to see what you get sometimes.

I don’t eat bananas, big oranges or grapefruit because of high blood pressure and also the grapefruit interferes with my medication.

The time between the UK and USA is 5 hours. The USA is behind the UK.πŸ˜€πŸ‘

These look wonderful! πŸ˜‹

It does take some work to cut up those cherries but nice to eat them like that.

Your lunch is so healthy and delicious. πŸ‘ I don’t cook for food today because I am going to finish my pumpkin soup leftovers.

Thank you for sharing with us and Enjoy your holiday weekend with family! πŸ€—πŸ™πŸŒΊ

Thank you, Koko! I love having fruit when it's possible. We have some peaches we got yesterday and I may use them for another small fruit salad in the next few days-- along with adding more cherries in, as well. :-)

in reply to Activity2004

I love peach when they are still green and crunchy. It’s very fresh when you add in your salad. πŸ‘ I tried with butter lettuce wrapped peach with poppy seeds dressing mixed with with balsamic vinegar and it was yummy. Enjoy your variety of fruits salad! πŸ˜‹πŸ‘

Wow, sounds great with the fruit and hummus. I don’t always eat as healthy as I should. I want to make it my goal, but unfortunately healthy food is expensive and processed is always cheaper. To add another sin, I have a huge sweet tooth. But I’m learning to forgive myself and set small goals. My family has an abundant garden now, so that helps!

What is your favorite type of fruit/vegetable to eat? You can always add it/them to your meals each day.

I enjoy eating fruit and/or Greek Yogurt with my meals. I also like having hummus when eating tuna/salmon/egg salad mixed together. It’s low carb. high protein. For me, personally, the protein keeps me full until I have either a snack or the next meal for the day.πŸ˜€πŸ‘

Hi, your fruit looks really tasty. Can I ask how you go about measuring your carbs so accurately? I know you have to do it quite strictly for medical reasons. I'm trying to reduce carbs and would like any tips on how to measure them. I know it would be obvious to weigh everything, but how do you go about it yourself? Do you have to weigh everything you eat? I hope that doesn't sound intrusive. It's just so easy for carbs to accumulate during the day.I'd like to reduce carbs because it should help me reduce my steroid weight and risk of type 2 diabetes .

Thank you.

Activity2004Administrator in reply to happytulip

It’s okay to ask about carb. counting…. I figure out what we will have each day/meal. I write down the items and then put the total amount of carbs. in each of the items next to the items based on what it says on each package/container. Then, when done eating, add everything up to get the grand total of carbs. for the entire meal/snack. πŸ˜€πŸ‘

happytulip profile image
happytulip in reply to Activity2004

Thanks for your reply. I thought it would be something like that. How do you go about weighing things that don't come in packages? For example, my Dad visited recently. He brought some home grown new potatoes and a loaf of bread from my favourite bakery from back home. No packaging other than brown bags. How would you measure that? Is there an app that you use for example? Or have you got "the knowledge" from years of practice?

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to happytulip

It’s both. A regular potato πŸ₯” is 26 total carbs. on its own. A sweet potato 🍠 is 24 carbs..

Bread (depending on the brand and amount you will eat): 15-35 total carbs.. If you put the potato in your hand and it’s bigger than normal, it may be 28-30 carbs.( regular potatoes).

happytulip profile image
happytulip in reply to Activity2004

Wow, you've become your own expert in carb counting. Ok, thank you. That's given me some idea of where to start. I've definitely reduced my carbs. I think the next step would be to keep a rough count of them.

It will be tricky because a lot of the food I eat is home grown and all different sizes.

I once wanted to make curried parsnip soup. The recipe asked for 6 parsnips so I asked my Dad to please dig up 6 parsnips.

Well, when he came into the kitchen I was a bit surprised. I didn't know he had planted a variety called Gladiator. Each parsnip was the length of my forearm! They were enormous. I made litres of the soup. Fortunately there was enough room to freeze it all.

Thank you.

The cherries look juicy delicious πŸ’. Not a big fan of blueberries on their own (although they taste lovely in a muffin or other desserts) i do prefer other berries like blackberries or strawberries. Lovely pic. Thanks for sharing.
