Fizz Free February ☕️

Hi everyone,

I think this is a very interesting initiave as drinking to much sugary drinks is linked to obesity tooth decay and are just empty calories that make up over 10% of many peoples calorie intake, so a fantastic way to lose weight by swapping fizzy drinks for sugar free ones.

Interesting initiative, and I think I am already pretty much 'Fizz Free' - I much prefer a lovely cup of coffee or tea, or just plain water.

Hey Zest you've more than enough fizz without cola's LOL. I'm the same a tea drinker who likes the odd coffee. 😊

We always have the sugar free sodas in our flat but we prefer tea or hot drinks here.

Too late :( I had a diet coke today - absolute emergency, as I needed a caffeine hit and I don't like coffee.

I dunno, I used to love diet coke, but now I only touch it if it's a dire situation (e.g. can't keep eyes open going into an important meeting like today). I don't really enjoy it these days.

Hey thats a shame I hope you survived the important meeting, you can buy caffeine tablets that might be a better option if you don't like the taste.

Well I have to fess up to having already had a pro plus, and still needing the drink too! 🤫

I've been reading about scientific studies that show that diet fizzy drinks are just as bad for our health as sugary ones. I can't send the links on my mob, but they're easy to Google and make interesting reading..

They swap the sugar for aspartamine (not sure on spelling) in diet and zero drinks which acts as a poison to us. I’m a Pepsi Max fiend, wish I could stop as I know how harmful it is

Yeah I used to love Pepsi Max! But I read how the sweet taste makes our bodies react as though we are consuming sugar and that people who regularly drink diet pop are more likely to be overweight and other facts that I just hadn't expected!

I don't like artificial sweeteners and I especially don't like aspartame and HFCS but some artificial sweeteners are very effective for diabetics and thats their real roll in food.

I drink water, teas and coffee more than soda these days except when it’s hard to get water for free. There’s some places here that charges for water with no ice!😐

Hi Leah, thats mean charging for water and with no ice is meaner...😕

I do like a glass of water with ice in the summer but tea without sugar and sweeteners is my main drink. 😊

I will have to try no sweetener in tea/coffee. I’m a big coffee drinker when I’m at my job.😀👍

I prefer tea, coffee or plain water. The taste of any flavoured drinks is not for me. Oh and wine, of course.

I like tea as my first drink of the day, and proper coffee with cream when I have brunch. And that’s it just drink water throughout the day. Always have water with my evening meal.

Probably my shopping bill does, still recovering from Christmas 😂😂😂 I would like to get below 11 stone, this is my first week. Have been lchf for two years and been able to maintain but would like to lose another stone. Purely vanity 😂😂

Hi Jerry, I can see what you they’re trying to do, but can’t go along with fizz-free as that will cut out my sparkling water (with ice and a slice of lime)! It isn’t the fizz that’s the problem, but I suppose they’ve chosen that because of the alliteration with February. Apparently Bristol is a “Sugar Smart City” so perhaps they should have insisted on highlighting the sugar aspect rather than the fizz. Roll on Sugarless September 😃

Hi PandQs I agree it's being promoted by councils and schools so it's also trying to get children to think about what they drink as children need less calories, when sugary fizzy drinks can count for a lot of their daily calorie intake.

Whereas you are aware of what you are consuming. 😊

I have been Fizz Free for 3 years. Well basically lol. Once in a while I do enjoy a Sprite if we eat out. I will do the challenge. No Sprite in February.

Thats so kind, thank you. It was suprisingly difficult. I got alot of headaches when giving it up. What gave me the determination was researching what was in it and the harm it was doing to my body 😉

Thank you for sharing. Fortunately I'm not really a fan of fizzy drinks and whilst following a low Fodmap diet I'm not allowed them anyway. I love my homemade decaf mochas which I'm now making using raw cacao powder and stevia, I've stopped using chocolate powder because of the amount of sugar.

We certainly do need to promote them, people need to know what they are doing to their health.

I need to out a little less cacao powder and then the mocha will be perfect.😊
