The BBC has an article today about fish & plastic. There is increasing evidence that by eating fish you are significantly contributing to the largest swathe of plastic in the oceans, with estimates around 50% of ocean plastic coming from fishing. This article shows a sperm whale with fishing tackle, including just part of a fishing net, in its insides. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-...

Next time you buy fish please consider that it comes at a cost of much more than just the fish you eat!

Here is a tweet from Mercy for Animals today showing a video of another sperm whale, this time trying to free its baby from fishing tackle in Italy. Both mother and baby died!

As the video goes on to say this other large fish such as dolphins get permanently caught and thence die in fishing tackle that is just discarded (when it develops holes etc) into the sea by fishermen in trawlers.
