Can You Recommend Inexpensive, Oil-Free Papadums ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pap... )?

.

Have been searching ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ”Ž with little luck. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

(No Indian ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ markets ๐Ÿ›’ nearby either. ๐Ÿ˜ž )

.

Have only come up with, โ€˜Pride of Indiaโ€™ brand ( amazon.co.uk/Pride-India-As... ) which, as tasty ๐Ÿ˜‹ as they are, are also pricey ๐Ÿ’ฐ & small-sized ๐Ÿ”Ž o ๐Ÿ”ฌ. . . for just 8 papadams per box!! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

. . . . o o o o o o o o ๐Ÿ“ฆ . . . ๐Ÿ’ฐ. . . ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

.

Any recommendations for less costly, oil-free, regular-sized โ€˜โšช๏ธโ€™ Papadam sources:

. . . . โšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธโšช๏ธ ๐Ÿ“ฆ . . . (that donโ€™t ๐Ÿšซcost an ๐Ÿ’ช & a๐Ÿฆต)

. . . . . . . . would be much, much appreciated.

Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜Œ ๐Ÿ™

Hi Kai--

I don't know about purchasing them, but how about making your own? There is a nice recipe here, in this article - if you look half-way down the article, it has a recipe you could print out and try?

thethingswellmake.com/homem...

Hope you manage to find some you like.

Zest :-)

p.s. I realise you asked for 'oil-free' and the recipe mentions coconut oil, but maybe you can leave that out if you do make them. I know that avoid-sugar made some chapatis without any oil, and they looked great, so I presume it's possible with the Papadams too?

Thank you kindly for your thoughtfulness, Zest. ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜Œ

(That exact page came up while researching! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿ˜ Think itโ€™s a โ€œPlan B" (sans oil) if all else fails. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ )

Itโ€™s a bit "labor-intensive" ๐Ÿคฐ, but I bet itโ€™s taste-worthy ๐Ÿ˜‹ .

Am still holding out for the pre-made, "lazy-personโ€™s" version . . . ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ™ƒ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you for your consideration, Zest. Much appreciated. โ˜บ๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ€ ๐ŸŒบ ๐ŸŒž

Not easy to make papadums๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑat home

Thank you, avoid-sugar. ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜Œ

I believe you. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Iโ€™ve the feeling if I was lucky ๐Ÿ€ enough to make a papadum successfully, it would be eaten on the spot โ€” never making it to the dining table ๐Ÿฝ! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Any subsequent ones would meet the same fate โ€” gobbled up ๐Ÿ˜‹ before touching a plate ๐Ÿฝ !! ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Will have to search ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ”Ž for Asian shops ๐Ÿ›’ , avoid-sugar. (Nothing remotely close by.)

Would make an adventurous โ€˜day tripโ€™ โ€” "the hunt for oil-free papadums ๐Ÿน โšช๏ธ " . . . โ˜บ๏ธ

Thank you kindly, avoid-sugar. ๐Ÿ˜Œ ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ€ ๐ŸŒบ ๐ŸŒž

Yes, they look like tortillas ๐ŸŒฎ , Want2BHappy3, but taste different.

Hereโ€™s an explanation from Wikipedia ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pap... ):

"A Papadum is a thin, crisp, disc-shaped food from the Indian subcontinent, typically based on a seasoned dough usually made from peeled black gram flour (urad flour), either fried or cooked with dry heat (usually flipping it over an open flame). Flours made from other sources such as lentils, chickpeas, rice, tapioca, or potato can be used.

Papadum is typically served as an accompaniment to a meal in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka or as an appetizer or snack, sometimes with toppings such as chopped onions, chopped carrots, chutneys or other dips, and condiments. . . . " [Photos show how itโ€™s served. ๐Ÿ˜‹ ]

.

Whereas "A tortilla is a type of thin, unleavened flatbread, typically made from corn or wheat. In Spanish, "tortilla" means "small torta", or "small cake". It was first made by the indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica before European contact. . . . " ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor... )

.

Both delicious & flavourful in their own unique way! ๐Ÿ˜‹
