A Week of Milestones.. what doesn’t kill me will make me stronger

Today I’m feeling super proud of myself. It’s been a week of milestones. One month ago (7/1/19) I visited the gym for the first time in thirty years. I have a disability effecting my balance, coordination, task sequencing and task completion capabilities. Despite this I was determined to find exercises I could do safely, supported by my carer/support Worker. The exercise bike, rowing machine and treadmill were out of bounds to begin with. One month later; today I did the longest stint on the rowing machine (13 minutes), the longest stint on the treadmill (13 minutes) and the longest stint on the exercise bike (13 minutes). This is no small feat considering I’m always very unsteady on my feet afterwards and fall more frequently in the proceeding hours. I don’t complain about that though, instead I pick myself up, dust myself down and set myself a new target. Weight wise this week also saw me reach the 14.5 stone mark (yesterday) followed by today I reached the one stone weight loss mark. That’s one stone of weight lost since 24/12/18. This is of course not the end of the journey but merely the end of the first chapter. I don’t care how many times I fall, I will always get back up. I look forward to reaching the next milestones. I’m determined ... what doesn’t kill me will make me stronger.

Hi Fitter-At-50

This is very inspiring - Congratulations on achieving your milestones, and it's great to see your progress shown in graph form - those are great results. :-) I love your enthusiasm too - it is infectious (in a good way!). :-)

Wishing you continued success, and hope you have a really excellent week ahead. I like your range of activities at the gym as well - a nice mix there! :-)

Zest :-)

This is absolutely fantastic! What is the software you’re using to get that chart? I would also mention that there are others of your age who have done something similar and now make a good living out of being a Personal Trainer/ motivational speaker etc

Thank you for the compliment. The graph above was created via My Fitness Pal, an app for tracking weight loss, exercise and calorie intake. I do create other graphs using Numbers on the IPad and Excel on Microsoft Office.

Well done extra on achieving those goals in spite of being disabled and it goes to show if you really want to do something then you will and will do anything to make it happen!
