Here's a challenge to start 2019 already running, healthy eating wise...πŸ₯¦πŸ₯•πŸŽ

Hi everyone,

The importance of a very varied selection of fruit nuts vegetables and herbs is as important as quantities because all plants have their own unique qualities that compliment one another leading to a healthy gut for us, so play an important part regardless of dietary choice.

So here's a positive challenge, how many different plants can you eat in the forthcoming week, so you start the year as you mean to go on.

If any of you have ways of adding more nutrients to meals then please say as they're most welcome.

Here's a link about eating 30+ plants per week and how processed foods lack this vital diversity:

I add seeds like chia seeds and flaked almonds to many foods but don't know how many different plants that I eat in a week but will count and I expect a poll will follow...

And here's to a happy and healthy start to 2019... 😊

Hi Hidden

This is a great Challenge, and thanks for doing it - I will definitely try to keep a tally - and it will be interesting to see how we get on.

Here's to a healthy and happy start to the New Year in 2019!

Zest :-)

Thank you for the support Zest and it'll be interesting how many plants we do eat in a week.

thanks for that, I had a look at the article and I suspect that, like the writer, I tend to eat the same plants foods repetitively. Not so sure about the diversity. I am certainly up for the challenge of trying to keep a tally and seeing how we get on. Are we counting beans such as kidney etc? I had a mixed bean chilli today for lunch with 5 different beans, chick peas and sweetcorn, plus the tinned tomatoes, garlic, onion that went in to it. Then I had a red grapefruit for pudding. If we are counting beans that would be 11 in my lunch so a good start! But I eat that same recipe for lunch a couple of days every week so that is where I would fall down on variety.

Thank you sunny369, I think that we're all very similar and eat lots of the same things in different combinations, I know that I do.

Now pulses are plants as are seeds herbs and nuts. Now your bean chilli sounds fantastic to me so if ever you want to post a photo then please do and 11 plants for lunch is a great start. 😊

sometime soon I hope to get a new phone then I will hopefully be able to have a go at posting photos.

I had exactly the same packed lunch today with blueberries instead of grapefruit.

I keep a food diary so it’s pretty easy to add up - yesterday I had 14 different plant based foods - nuts, seeds, fruit and veggies. I do find that recording things makes me more conscious of what I’m eating. I use an app that gives me calories, protein, carbohydrates, sugar, sodium, calcium and fibre.

Thats great Kaz and I'm sure you'll eat lots of different plants as I've seen your meals and thats great advice about watching/being mindful of what you eat... 😊
