Brilliant vegan keto article in the Windy

This article in the Windy was cited in one of the other fora as being sound evidence against the keto diet:

independent.co.uk/life-styl...

It is an interesting, if unintentionally hilarious, read.

It does roundly slate keto from beginning to end, quoting 'research' that calls it "the worst fad diet".

The author, a vegan, tried a keto diet for 7 days, during which time:

" I was forced to supplement almost every pallid meal with at least three slices of toast."

"I don’t think I’ve eaten quite so much bread in my life as I did during that one week."

such is the quality of journalism in the Windy.

It goes on to quote a 'leading Harley Street Nutritionist' who says that even conventional keto "under no circumstances should be pursued long-term without professional supervision". Presumably professional from a Harley St nutritionist.

In case you are intrigued by who this Leading Harley St Nutritionist' might be, this is she:

Of course both the article and the keto diet might both be daft...

of course everything might be daft: gravity, horses, the semi-colon, quark... but time is limited

So, a diet that limits grains, legumes, starchy carbs and fruit combined with a diet that excludes meat, fish and dairy doesn’t work too well.....who would have guessed that!

They're apparently unaware that any random numpty can rent Harley Street consulting rooms as long as you pay the rent on time. Absolutely appalling that that particular numpty has been one of the NHS's highly-paid consultants: if that represents the standard method of outsourcing nutrition advice, it probably goes a long way towards explaining official policies.

According to her website she has a Bsc and an Msc in nutrition-related wibble, which makes her about as qualified to pontificate on the scientific validity of lchf as you or me.

Anyway, doing vegan keto is obviously not possible and probably not even useful. As per andyswarbs posts, you can do low-GI vegan and get a similar result.
