Pancricitis and no gallbladder diet

Hi,

I have recently had my gallbladder out and have pancricitis. I am currently recovering and waiting to see the consultant for possibly further surgery. I am hoping that someone has some food ideas as I quite restricted on what I can eat and there doesn't seem to be many books available for persons like myself. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Amber, thank you. Yes read most of them. Had surgery over Christmas period. No red meat, alcohol, chocolate, dairy unless 1% or less fat, only steamed or roasted food. As I have no gallbladder and limited use of my pancreas I am struggling for new ideas.

Has your doctor put you on any medications for digestion after the surgery for the pancreas? If you haven't seen your doctor about digestive enzymes, can you please call the doctor's office and schedule an appointment so you can discuss it with the doctor this week? Without digestive enzymes, certain foods will not digest and they will just sit. This has been my personal experience over the years when I had not taken medication first before eating or drinking something that wasn't fruit, juice, water, etc.. Meat, milk, fish, cheese, etc. needs to have medication before eating or drinking. I've had most of my pancreas removed when I was 2 weeks old as an infant. I'm on digestive enzymes.

Hi Dawn,

There is some information in NHS Choices about diet following removal of the gall-bladder, and also some information on pancreatitis - I've included a search result here for you, if you'd like to have a look:

nhs.uk/Search/?q=diet+and+p...

However, I would also suggest discussing your medical follow-up with your GP and health care provider, so that your own needs can be assessed - and maybe there might be the option of a referral to a dietician?

I hope you're comfortable and that you are able to find some foods that you can enjoy and tolerate.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Zest :-)

No, I live in the USA and have medical insurance through the ACA (Affordable Care Act/Obama Care).
