Hi everyone, never joined anything like this before, so feeling a little out of my comfort zone right now.

I am interested in eating for health, and keeping myself and my family happy.

As a woman of a certain age I am interested in anything that may help me make a decision on whether to start HRT to alleviate my menopausal symptoms.

My husband has high cholesterol levels so I'm interested in that subject.

I am also interested in mental health and general wellbeing.

I hope that being part of an online community will be a positive experience 😁

Thank you for your response, the photo is from a piece in the Camera Obscura exhibition in Edinburgh, not one of my own 😊

I will check out your suggestions. Thanks again.

I foolishly waited 6 years (of hell) before starting HRT. My friend's gynaecologist sister recommends Angelique as the safest synthetic on the market. I recently swapped to bio-identical, & I like it less, despite it being "better", though it's early days. Do you have a good female GP you can ask about either of these options?

I'm a fan of probiotics for general well being. There's current research linking good gut health to good mental health. This is just one article by a functional medicine practitioner that I follow: chriskresser.com/heal-your-...

There's lots more on his website, & available elsewhere such as Michael Mosley's Good Gut Diet website. Zest posted about a pro-probiotic telly programme that was on a month or so ago, which may still be available to view.

I've eaten kefir daily after reading this: chriskresser.com/kefir-the-... It's also high in vitamin K2, boron which are essential for bone growth along with magnesium & vitamin D3.

Yes, I did post a summary of the programme on 'Gut diets' - and my summary is about half-way down this thread:

So do have a look if you're interested Scooby17 - and wishing you well and hope you have a good week.

Zest :-)

Thanks Zest just followed your link and read the post from Oct, very interesting and informative. I have for a while tried to incorporate organic live yoghurt daily which is no hardship on my homemade coconutty granola πŸ˜‹ I struggle with the taste of kefir tbh. Saw part if the to programme when it was on will go back and finish it off on catch up. And will check out the book you mention too. Many thanks

Hi thanks for your reply, yes I gave a friend that's a GP and we have had a chat about it, I've got an appointment in December to see a 'Gynie' GP in my own Drs. I will ask about the two you've mentioned here. It's just a bit of a mine field and I understand it's different for each of us. I had my coil removed a few weeks ago and the Dr who did it was raving about HRT and said it was 'amazing', tbh it was the smile on her face and her whole demeanour that convinced me to think more about it instead of going cold turkey.

My sister has just given me a Lady Care magnet which has great reviews and while it's a bit early to see results I have been sleeping better since wearing it! Thanks again

I saw those, but thought it was a gimmick. Please let me know whether it works. I use acupuncture on myself to help most things, & found prescribed herbal meds very good, but I cracked after 6 years.

Sorry Bad Hare I think I replied to Zest with your response, forum newness error. Many thanks for your reply though I will have a look at all of your suggestions.

That happens to me sometimes, I spotted your reply, so knew it was me you meant to respond to as it came up in my notifications! Good that you had another recommendation, & good luck getting help from your GP! :)

Up until getting the magnet I had been using sage leaf supplements to control my hot flushes and night sweats, and that worked to some degree, although recently that symptom has started to increase. However I decided to stop when I put the magnet on so as to fully appreciate if it worked. I haven't had one single full blown hot flush since, I have a couple of times felt it was coming but it never amounted to anything, so I definitely feel like it's controlling that particular symptom. The night sweats have also stopped hence sleeping better (not perfect yet but most nights better). Apparently the magnetic field in he Lady Care only lasts 5 years and the one my sister has given me is 10 years old at least!!! So I am going to purchase a new one to see if it can counteract some of the other symptoms.

I am interested to know if going in to HRT has helped you with all your symptoms and why you swapped over to bio identical recently.

Many thanks
