Update on Healthy Eating Pledges (August 28th to September 3rd 2017) :-)

Hi everyone,

Here is a link to the Pledge post from last week:

healthunlocked.com/healthye...

My pledges were as follows:

1. Find a new recipe and post it in the forum. - Update - not done this yet, still looking - but considering Fish Pie (thanks to suggestion from Morgancando).

2. Go to the gym twice - Yes, I managed this. Had a couple of good gym sessions.

3. Do some Strength exercises on alternate days - consisting of some press-ups, squats and sit-ups, plus using my resistance bands and kettlebell. - Oh no, forgot to do this!!! Must do better next week.

4. Do my Core work-out DVD at least once this week - Not done this yet, but have planned to do it over the weekend.

5. Choose well when I eat out later this week - please see my photo of my meal - the starter was Melon and Feta, and the main was Chorizo, Prawn and Squid Salad with balsamic dressing. I also had a small glass of red wine, lots of tap water, and also a coffee with a small Lotus biscuit. The total calories for the whole meal were approx 764 calories.

6. Drink sufficient water - think I did better with this, so feel I did do this.

How did you get on with your Challenges?

I will tag crazyfitness and Elizahanna as you pledged something - Activity2004 - you also mentioned you hoped to do some reading - not sure if you were pledging or just commenting when you said that, but I'm tagging you anyway.

I'm also tagging Caroline62 to welcome you back from your holiday, and to let you know we're still 'pledging'. Hope you had a great holiday!

Wishing everyone a great weekend.

Zest :-)

Thank you, Zest. I was pledging to do some reading. Did some last night before heading to bed. Will do more later.

Thanks! Right now, I'm in the middle of a Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown book. Love cats and cat stories!

Thank you Zest. Since coming back from hols it has been a bit manic here my grandson has moved back with me so trying to fit 2 people's things in a flat made for one. Also sorting him out and helping him to get ready to go back to college- work experience and has he has special needs it is a bit more difficult. Give me a few more days and I'll be back on board again. I am still eating healthy and lost the weight I put on over the holiday and drinking water but not fully on board yet

Hi Caroline62,

Wow, you're having lots of changes at home at the moment - I would like to wish you success in managing everything, and I am sure you will sort out your living space to accommodate you and your Grandson. Good luck though! :-)

Great that you are still eating healthily and that you've lost your holiday weight - wow, that is brilliant! :-) Excellent that you're drinking sufficient water too.

Wishing you an excellent week.

Zest :-)

Hi there Zest, thanks for your update and sounds like you are doing well. I haven't been as good as I would have liked to have been i.e. re exercise I haven't been that good. Can't believe I actually used to do more when at work i.e. I cycled to work as much as I could, the only thing that would stop me would be the weather as I can't cycle in the rain because I wear glasses so therefore cannot see. I can't power walk at the moment because I have done something to my knee which in turns makes my lower leg and foot ache. I really need to get back on board re doing the stomach crunches, which I was doing.

One thing I am being careful with is food which is definitely a bonus, just need to find a way to lose weight (I need to lose around 9 lbs, might not sound much but when you get to your late 50's it is as weight is harder to lose) but that won't be following a diet as sorts as I don't think they work. As soon as you hear the word diet, you naturally think of starvation.

Here's to a better week with the exercise for me.

Hi Alicia,

Great to hear from you, and thanks for the encouraging words - I think it's been a good week. Really glad to hear that you are managing to choose foods that you feel you can tolerate - as I know you're trying the FODMAP diet, and that must be quite challenging to do.

I am sorry to hear your knee is causing you some trouble though, and I really hope that you can do your stomach crunches - as you know you can do those ok.

I'm not going to set a formal 'pledge post' this week - as I am going to be away much of this week - and may not be able to get online very much - but I'll be around again more regularly from the following week.

So wishing you an excellent week! Hope you lose a bit of weight, as you hope to do. Good luck! :-)

Hi Zest

You are welcome and you are doing so well and in particular leading on these pledges. I'm not fully on the FODMAP diet as yet as I will be away for a fortnight shortly but will be following it when I return - not easy to restrict your diet so much when you are away.

I have an appointment with someone that specialises in sports injuries on Tuesday so I am hoping that I will learn more and find out how I can help myself.

I will do my stomach crunches and I am determined to tighten the stomach which in turn supports the back.

Hope you have a good week and looking forward to seeing your post when you are back.

Alicia :)

Thank you Zest. I walked a bit today and my knee does seem to be better with exercise so I hope that's what they say to me tomorrow.

I did some stomach exercises this morning so have started the week on a good note so now to keep it up :)

Have a good one.

Alicia :)

Great Alicia, you're off to an excellent start to the week. :-) Hope you felt good after doing the stomach exercises. You've reminded me, I need to do some strength stuff, but actually I've been finding my left arm is 'hurting' at certain angles, so I am wondering if I've pulled it or strained it somehow - so I'm going to 'rest it' for a bit.

I had my main meal at lunchtime today, so having a lighter evening meal - probably cheese and tomato on toast.

Hope you have something you enjoy. Enjoy your evening. :-)

Most definitely and I have started as I mean to go on. If your arm doesn't improve I would definitely look at contacting a physio/self referring to a physio.

I was naughty today, I had two mochas (I take my own milk to cafes now as I am drinking Lactose free) but haven't eaten any lunch so will have a evening meal of cold chicken with vegetables and sweet potato with a small amount of fruit afterwards.

Have a good evening.

Alicia :) xx

Your evening meal sounds lovely - enjoy! Yes, I will refer to a Physio if my arm doesn't improve.

Your Mochas sound good too! :-)

Oh I love my mochas, there are some things I won't give up unless, of course, they don't like me :)
