Diet and disease

Just want to say that I was diagnosed with vasculitis which has brought me nothing but pain and frustration. That was a year ago and now I'm one week in on a vegan diet. No animal by products at all. And I have never felt better. Food is my medicine and I eat to live now. Just want to share my experience and if It can help someone else than all the power to you. It really does feel amazing. Like I've been reborn. And I was the biggest fast food junkie. No wonder I have a disease. It's crazy how we are raised to think something is good for you when really it just makes you sick or eventually. Depending on the person. Just can't believe food is medicine lol

Lol just watched it last night. Wtf. Where have I been my entire life. Feel so behind and stupid for how I've lived. Or how I've been told to live. I woke up this morning so easily with energy and a smile on my face. Wow. I'm living life and loving it.

So I'm still on a natural high which I've never felt. I will admit this lifestyle isn't for the poor. This world I view very differently now. I am saving money not buying meat and going to coffee shops or fast food joints. Still have to quit smoking. But the cost of the food is ridiculous therefore having to buy whole foods yourself and preparing. So it's costly and work. It's not at a drive thru window. BUT..... I feel like I'm a teenager with energy and I can't explain but feel rejuvenated. To me I will continue as my disease is getting better as is my whole body mind and soul. I encourage people to try it as after a couple days you will notice the changes and be saying why haven't I done this before.

I'm glad your still feeling better. By changing eating habits it can affect us emotionally as well as physically. As we all know people who suffer from any form of Auto Immune disease can become emotional anyway. It's all part of the disease. Often if people are suffering from other things as well they might be in pain. Any diet or change in lifestyle followed needs careful monitoring especially with health difficulties to ensure we get the correct nutritional balance. You haven't mentioned which form of vasculitis you suffer from? It's true to say fast foods are not good for anyone in the long term, neither is too much coffee. Good Luck!

I do not go to Wholefood shops, in Lindon it is very expensive. Canned pulses and veg can be your basics

Good to hear from you Greg. Am surprised you find the diet expensive. Veg and beans are cheap, potatoes, wholemeal bread, brown rice and pasta. I spend far more on my husbands ,normal, diet that I do on mine. He makes me a lovely meal with sweet potato and lentils. Try Clearspring Tofu, does three meals, I cook fusilli then mix in one third pack tofu, three teaspoons pesto, and loads of raw spinach, maybe a spot of chilli, can be prepared beforehand and then heated for three minutes in the microwave, one of my favourite dishes. PLEASE GIVE UP THE CIGARETTES, YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Hello Anne. I'm interested to know other peoples views on adding the chilli you mentioned. Considerable numbers of people with vasculitis especially Henoch Schonlein Purpura and such like have long term kidney disease and too many spices can cause problems. Agree with your view on cigarettes. Personally I've never smoked I can't stand them. However, I do know that giving them up often causes a person to change personality. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad for some! Together with eating a healthy well balanced diet though it can make a person feel more relaxed and thus reduce blood pressure.

I was not aiming my remark for sufferers of vasculitis, obviously you can leave out the chilli which was for me a minute amount. The website NutritionFacts.org run by Dr Michael Gregor is very interesting and has an interesting forum at the end. His book How not to die is very informative.

Thanks for the replies. I'm quitting smoking sooner than later. Especially after this natural boost of goodness just from eating the right stuff. Here in canada it's like setup so you eat unhealthy. Very expensive. Ok some veg are cheap but the majority of health food is pricey. I'm going to find ways to be fruggle and try maybe your favorite dish Anne. All I know is this is how I was meant to live. Happy healthy and healing all from food.

Good morning to everyone. I woke up this morning pain free!!!!! It's been a little over a week and my body is thanking me. If I continued with my western diet I probably would've killed myself slowly and now one week in I feel like I'm on top of the world. My wife thinks I'm crazy cause I just want to spread the word. I just want to help people who are like me diagnosed with a rare disease and no one to help. I've found a cure and it's simple. Eat plant based whole foods only and you will feel like a new person with a new outlook on life. I am doing it and I will never go back to that nasty depressing way of life that majority of us choose simply cause society tells us that's what we should. I use laugh at vegans? But now I understand and am laughing at the fact I was so negligent. And stupid for living 30 years of life poisoning it.

Your right with the plant based foods. Its very well documented this is the best source of diet for people with vasculitis blood problems. Often dependant on a particular blood group means we are more susceptible to accepting these foods. We are all different in various consumption levels of these foods though so what might agree with someone might not agree with someone else. Generally though its a better form of diet. I for one would like to see the UK import far more nuts from Australia as I feel we are not having the best amounts at the best price and we could be using far more. After all they are plentiful in other countries.

Eating healthy certainly does make people feel better generally in the longer term. During the first few weeks you are clearing the body of nasty toxins and chemicals so the reason you are feeling better is possibly due to that along with a fresh state of mind. The chances are you might feel a bit rough after a few days or weeks as your body adjusts. It also helps to drink plenty of fluids like water to help detox. Please continue to let us know how you get on. which type of vasculitis do you have?

Ya I'm starting to round off with the natural boost as like you said my body is adjusted now. Still feel really good and awaiting a naturopath ice appt. To get all the right info. To be honest I will never go back to how I was living. This is a blessing. That's all I can say. I'm 32 and have polyarteritis nodosa. Or cutaneous they think. And now I feel like a normal person.

Just wanted to say it's friday and I feel great. Changing my diet has changed my life. I would encourage anyone who wants to be a new person to just try and see. It really is amazing. Hope everyone has a happy healthy Friday.

Still going strong. Feel so good it's not even funny. Everyone I tell that I'm vegan looks at me like??? But the people who know me are wondering lol. I'm truly onto something here. I literally feel like I'm on a natural high. All I can say is plant power food is the only way to go. Can't even look at meat now lmao. Want to hear if someone has tried even just a little bit and if they notice some of the same symptoms.
