Hi Tibbly,

Thank you! Yes of course you could have some wholemeal bread with that meal. I actually had a starter too (which was Lentil and vegetable soup with some French bread and butter), and they served the salad with some fresh vegetables and I had a few chips with it too - they were very generous, but I just ate what I felt I needed at the time - it was lovely.

I'm always a bit cautious with chips at a restaurant or pub because of what they might have been cooked in. Most of these places use seed oils for cheapness which can become dangerous especially when reheated as will be the case in a restaurant. Cook chips in lard or dripping.
