I am new to this site and just turned 60 recently been made redundant and am slowly piling on the pounds. I need to get back to how I was when i was working. I have recently been diagnosed with gallstones and am waiting for the operation. Certain foods trigger off the pain so struggling at the moment.

Hi Eileen104 ,

Welcome to the Healthy Eating forum. Many Happy returns for your recent 60th BIrthday. I know you have had some changes recently due to your redundancy, and I hope you're coping ok.

There is a section about 'Diet and Gallstones' in the following NHS Choices link, so that may be helpful for you:

nhs.uk/Conditions/Gallstone...

I hope you'll let us know how you're getting on, and do have a look around the forum - the 'Search Healthy Eating' option (top right) is useful for looking at previous posts on issues of interest to you, and we also have various Topics which have interesting threads too.

Wishing you success with your goals, and I hope you don't have to wait too long for your forthcoming operation.

Zest :-)

Hello Eileen, I'm sorry to hear that you have a gall bladder op in front of you which is done all too easily these days by the key-hole process. A consultant surgeon friend told me that during his working life he had done many of these operations which in his view were caused by too much sugar and suagary food in the diet. That will also account for weight gain. Watch out for sugar and avoid white flour products such a white bread. We buy 1kg of sugar a year. I also make all the bread in the home and use the recipe which you can find at healthscams.org.uk/bake-you... I modify the recipe a bit so as to make two loaves at the same time and freeze one of them which saves oven use. I use 1200 gms of wholemeal flour and 800ml of warm water. You need not alter the yeast or the salt.

I hope all goes well with your forthcoming opp and as a post operative medication get some organic wheat bran and sprinkle a little on each meal, that will keep your digestive system running smoothly while you recuperate.

Best wishes, Tibbly
