Hi

I am post menopause hot flushes etc, and have Ibs also a vegetarian, my diet is bad, I have seen a nhs dietitian to try and help, she put me on fodmap diet, but was not good at the vegetarian side of things.

I am looking for a book or information for a healthy diet and excercise plan suitable for me.

Can anyone advise me please

Many thanks

Just google healthy stuff and NHS 12 week diet plan is good, be aware that high fat / sugar foods tend to ' fuel' hot flushes, good luck x

I am now 61 and no longer getting the hot flushes, except after drinking coffee! Fruit tea or hot chocolate does not have the same effect, so you could experiment to see what your triggers are?

Also, having lost weight, I find it easier to manage my temperature fluctuations and no longer get any night sweats thank goodness!

I used to be married to a vegetarian - we cooked a lot of stuffed peppers, squashes, courgettes, filled with cous-cous or rice and added stuffing mix for flavour, with extra nuts and seeds for protein. You can have what you enjoy so long as you weigh ingredients and keep track of the calories. Try and eat as wide a range of foods as you can to make sure you don't miss out on any vitamins or minerals essential to good health.

As far as exercise plans go - just move as much as time allows; hoover the house, clean the car, dig the garden, walk the dog - it is all exercise which burns off calories. If money allows, join a gym, swim, do spinning classes, aqua-aerobics, learn to play squash, anything that keeps you active and not snacking due to boredom. Take control and make a plan of action!

Good luck!
