Slimming World my last desperate attempt 😔

Well after trying calorie counting with the NHS plan and the LCHF diet and realising that neither of them would suit me long term so they would be just diets and not lifestyle changes and eventually I would have to come off them and get back into that old familiar viscous circle we all know of piling the weight back on and trying again a few months later 😁 I've decided to give Slimming World a go.

On paper the plan looks perfect for me all the free foods I like and on the website there  are some lovely recipes and there's plenty of info especially on YouTube where a fair few people are posting some very entertaining videos!!! Maybe I should start and try to be a internet sensation to distract me from eating 😃

I'm hoping it will work but have my doubts when pasta and potato are free foods but will give it a whirl.

Any advice that anyone has would be gratefully recieved as most of the Slimming World info on this site seems quite old.

So off to have a mushroom and spinach for breakfast now which should start my day of nicely because I do love my eggs in the morning 👍

Have a good day all and I'll  be back tomorrow hopefully with a happy positive attitude still!

Hi, I have done slimming world on several occasions sadly all it taught me was to eat more and not necessarily the right food either. My friends and I found we put on appriox  a stone each time we stopped, this got me into some of this mess I'm in with now. I hope you find it more successful but if I'm honest I think you will experience the same problems we've had. Anyway, onwards and upwards as they say good luck xx

Thanks Debbie I was thinking that myself. A lot of the YouTube people talk about going back to it to lose the weight again.

I'll give it a whirl as I said I've tried most other things without success but I'm still not 100% sure of it. But if I lost anything I'd be happy.

We'll see how I get on at my first weigh in.

Sadly Slimming World and Weight Watchers didn't work for me.. I won't say I didn't lose weight, but neither of them are easy to maintain.. Which is why today is my first day with NHS 😃. I have to say , I have had a mooch around and looked at recipes and I'm liking what I see right now.

Hi Nicki

Thanks for reply I tried the NHS plan but found all the calorie counting a nightmare and also I was hungry a lot of the time which is why Slimming World appeals to me.

But I'll wait till my weigh in on Monday to see the results, to be honest if I lose weight from what I'm eating it will be a miracle but we'll see.

Thanks for the reply 👍.. I'm not saying this will work, and I have only been trying this since Tuesday, but the meals all look great, and I really don't mind calorie counting.. I am 60, a grandmother of 12 😱😃 and I don't work, so I have all the time in the world for weighing food and cooking, lol.. And honestly, with the amount of food allowed, I'm really not hungry.. Anyway, il see how it goes 👍

Hi Nic2ie , my niece has been doing the Slimming World diet since late last year and she's lost about 2.5 stones! She says its very easy to follow, but I've looked at it and think I'd never stick to it with all the " free foods " plus weighing in at a slimming club doesn't appeal to me! But she loves it, and staying for the group meeting really motivates her!

I weigh in on the NHS weight loss forum on Mondays and that really helps me! I'm kinda doing my own thing now! After all I have been on a diet for most of my adult life so it isn't as if I don't know what I can and can't eat!

But this time with the help of the forum which is keeping me motivated I'm doing ok! 😁 Good luck and let us know how you get on 😉

Hi Jester

Thanks for reply and delighted to hear your niece has lost the weight. From what I've read so far it seems it does work but people have problems maintaining it.

I'm like you the weigh in bit and meetings just doesn't appeal to me so I joined online but we have scales at work where I'm going to weigh myself each week so I think that will be my motivation not to fail in front of my work colleagues.

Good luck with the NHS plan it didn't work for me but it seems to work for a lot of people

Good luck to you too! I'm not really following any plan, just kinda doing my own thing! Because this has to be something I can stick with! No good putting it back when I get to the weight I want! It's working so far! 😁 I just chat on the forum and weigh in on Monday's! They're a great bunch too! 😉

please go to slimming world - ignore the naysayers. It DOES work. I've lost 3 stone since dec 2015. It doesn't teach you to eat as much as you like, it teaches you a new approach to food and if you follow the plan properly, you will succeed. To me, the nhs plan is no plan at all, its just...nothing ...it doesn't teach you anything, take my advice and get to slimming world. You can pm me if you want, i can help you on your plan, and no, I'm not a consultant, I'm just a person like you, who wants to lose and keep weight off, and I'm fed up of people criticising slimming world because they don't know what they're talking about

Hi, I don't think anyone is criticising Slimming World! I never would as my niece loves it, and she's done amazingly well! Well done with your weight loss 😊

Hi all. I've been dieting for the last 43 years and have tried them all and been to all the clubs, with good results but not long lasting..

Slimming World is by far the easiest to change your way of eating to a lifestyle change.

I've lost 2 and a half stone since last September and now run a Slimming Club in Spain where we predominantly follow the Slimming World plan.  We have lost a total of 57 pounds in 6 weeks which averages a weight loss of 2 lbs per person per week a really good average!

Slimming World is easy to follow without having to think too much - you can eat freely of meat, fish, veg, fruit, pasta and rice but watch what you cook them in and what sauces you put on them!!! These are the real culprits! East to eat out too but have the chicken tikka without the masala sauce, for example!

Food is no longer an obsession for me - I just stick to the basics, avoid carbs and have the odd treat without feeling guilty!

Good Luck with your weigh ins tomorrow!

I'm a bit confused how you avoid carbs if you are eating rice and pasta freely?

Thanks Lesley getting a bit nervous now :))) but I've stuck to it all week just hope I'm doing the right thing as It seems very easy to follow and I seem to be eating more than ever at the moment!!

Hi Fran.

Slimming World have an SP version of their diet which restricts the carbs for people to use, either for a couple of days a week as a weight loss boost or for longer if carbs are a problem. As I've been dieting continuously for so many years I find I have to keep my carbs restricted, so I have smaller portions or just meat & veg.

Normally, if you haven't been dieting before, you can eat them freely and still lose weight.

Nic2ie, over on LCHF you complained that the bugbear was your soda drinking habit.  Is that still the case?  If so then take a look at water kefir.  Kefir grains comes in 2 forms water or milk users.sa.chariot.net.au/%7E....  They are both probiotic and have been scientifically proven to have all sorts of wonderful benefits (though the milk one has a better probiotic content).  The milk version is like yogurt with knobs on but almost devoid of lactose.  The water version is like pop/soda/lemonade with a very very low alcohol level but low in sugar so great for sugar free diets.  It can be made to any preferred (natural) flavour, including using carton fruit juices as a base.  Both types of grain can be used with coconut milk/water for another sugar free drink.

I found that when I was at home with a baby and had time to cook, shop, plan, weigh - Slimming World worked and I lost 2.5 stone. Then when I went back to work full-time, I found it hard to stick to and I never seem to be able to get back into it now. Plus I agree you get used to large portions, so if you stop following the plan, the weight soon piles back on. Am trying NHS as a last resort - have never tried traditional calorie counting, so may as well give it a whirl!

The trouble with slimming world is even if it works for you initially they don't tell you how to maintain once you reach your goal, but then they won't because they want you to put the weight back on an keep coming back. It teaches you nothing. Have you tried counting macros, look at teamrh on Facebook, this will teach you all you need to know and you eat whatever you want as long as it fits with your macros. It does mean completing a food diary on MyFitness Pal every day and it does involve weighing and measuring food out. Ultimately what you get out of it depends on how much commitment you are prepared to put in.
