hi Kass1234 i'm 6ft 3in tall when i first became a diabetic i was nearly 28 stone i was also an HGV driver which you can image sat all day the weight just came up like a big wave, when i started to lose weight what i did is stopped all takeaway, fried foods you name i stopped it, but i was told that once a month to start with have what your favorite takeaway is but have a small portion get a plate size that was smaller then what i used to have then over time being my meal size down until i then went on slim-fast which i needed to go on with you weight and height being more than half of what i was you just need to think how much my body with cope between meals, like your breakfast see what health foods do you like for breakfast and then lunch, the dinner. to be honest if you just cut the takeaway out for a month or two what ever is your goal weight try just working out what you eat now to what you can changed it to. i must admit Kass you really don't need to lose it quickly because of your height and weight, your really not over weight just need to eat better than what you are doing. please feel free to ask anytime Kass i'm always here ready to help take care i hope what i've said gets you started kindest regards bigalan xx

If you are borderline I believe you can control with diet.

I wish you all the best, from what i am reading it sounds like you want to loose a bit of weight.

I calculate my ideal weight using the NHS BMI calculator, at moment I am 29.1.

It is pretty much a given that any diet that allows you to loose weight is good for you.

However, as much as it pains me to say it Processed Food are a big factor. Go au natural, on the dinner plate, but make sure you eat enough calories.

They are good that's for sure but I'm sure cutting 2 out a week will make you lose weight naturally.

I'd have 3 a week too which I have to knock on the head :) but my worse thing is coke I can go through 2 litres of that in a day easily!

Thought you might like to see a site where people have reported their success controlling diabetes by going very low carb- wheatbellyblog.com/?s=diabetes. Hope you find success.

Live in U.S. so don't know what 13.07 equals in our system, but sounds a lot like me; weighed 198 lb (US), 25 years chronic depression, and had been borderline diabetic for awhile. Finally tried raw green shakes at breakfast and tea time (our "after school snack time"); drinking minimum 2 liters of water a day; cut out ALL processed flours, added or processed sugars, and dairy; and stopped eating even one bite--ever--between dinner and bed. I did NOT give up chocolate--I still eat chocolate in the form of raw cacao powder and cacao nibs in my shakes, with added cinnamon like Mexican chocolate). The bloating went away within the first 10 days, then I started feeling better generally. 8 months later, have been totally off all antidepressants for 3 months, have MUCH less arthritis pain, have lost 6 lbs., & have lots more energy. Don't even miss the dairy or the added sugar--but occasionally want crackers or sandwiches, so I eat crackers made from nut flour and seeds.

Well done to you.

One thing that is making a big difference for me is not eating between 7pm and 7am.

The first couple of weeks were hard but starting to settle down now.

Also, I snack constantly albeit on fruit, usually every hour or so!!

I know what you mean; every time I take even one bite after dinner is done, I end up binging. It took me more than 6 months to even begin to "not care" about ice cream--that's been my Waterloo. I learned the hard way that if I snack between meals during the day, I end up eating way too much and I gain, or at least don't lose any weight, even though my blood sugar stays level; but I'm really glad that it works for you! We are all different!

Thanks for the stones to kg to lbs. Like you, I've lost weight on "fad" diets and store-bought diet products in the past, too. I've lost 40 lbs a couple of times, and once I even kept it off about 3 years. But like your experience, it always came back, and then some, as soon as I started eating "normal" again. I'm only 5' tall, and have weighed between 196 and 199 lbs for the last few years. Like you, my doctor was warning me about high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

...so this time when I tried adding smoothies from SimpleGreenSmoothies.com, and liked 'em, I decided to keep 'em as a permanent part of my diet. Then I started studying about fruits and veggies on the internet and tried all different kinds of smoothies. Right away, immediately, I started to feel better, then I had more energy and started gardening. Then my depression went away and I quit taking antidepressants. I was getting enough calcium and B vitamins and a bunch of other stuff, so I quit taking my multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. My blood pressure went down, my blood sugar stayed under control, and my doctor was happy.

I didn't lose any weight for about 7-1/2 months, but I felt SO much better that it didn't seem to matter too much. I started making a point of having smoothies and snacks of foods that made me feel fuller and stopped cravings, and I stopped wanting to eat between meals. Then one day I vowed to never, ever put anything but water into my mouth after I left the dinner table in the evening. And THAT'S when I started losing weight. As of this morning, I'm down 8 lbs.

I hope for you that you find that "one good little thing" that you can change permanently. Then, when it's a permanent habit, you can add another little thing...they add up. Good Luck!!!

Did your doctor also tell you to exercise ? It is something apparently some GP omit from their repertoire of advice.... but it is one important factor in the prevention and management of Diabetes 2
