Wow. Didn't realise I ate the 2 most popular. Hoping my choices are good as I eat these 2 every week. I just love them so much πŸ’–

The ones you pick is some of the same ones that I eat either in a fruit salad or on their own for a side dish.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

You mean, what fruits do you eat? Some of these are not terribly low carb...which doesn't mean you don't eat them, just that I'm not sure why they are on this particular list.

dietdoctor.com/low-carb/fru...

Another great choice (if you can find it) is starfruit.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to amykp

What is in star fruit? Is it like goji berries?

amykp profile image
amykp in reply to Activity2004

healthline.com/nutrition/st... kind of tropical I think? They can be delicious, but the ones in the grocery are often kind of insipid

I will have a look at the link very soon. Thank you for sharing it.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Also strawberries are strangely missing

When creating a poll, HU has the choices set up just for 8 slots/choices, so far. I have asked HU Support to please add a few more slots/choices for the Admins. for when creating polls. I will let you know when (and if) this happens. :-)

Strawberries is a great choice of a fruit. They are one of my favorites to add for a peanut butter sandwich. :-)

Yes I would have picked strawberries too, though I’m not so keen on them out of season they can be flavourless.

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to Fran182716

Ah, you need to do what I do. In winter (and summer) I always have a bag of frozen berries in the freezer. They are picked at the height of ripeness, so usually very sweet. If you go for the misshapened ones, they are also super cheap.

Thank you, I have an Asda delivery booked for Thursday, I can add these in πŸ˜€

I like frozen cherries for dessert at some dinners when it’s possible.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Not very often this time of year, I like soft fruit from the U.K. in the summer I can sit and eat 2lbs of cherries in one sitting also strawberries and raspberries only half a punnet at a time though. I also love peaches and nectarines, they mostly come from abroad

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Htims46

This is good to hear. Thank you for bringing this up.

I like peaches and nectarines when I can get them. It’s been a while since I could get them since the COVID-19 virus has been here.

I've chosen lemon but I really must buy some kiwis and blueberriesπŸ‘πŸŒˆπŸ˜Š

That’s great! Blueberries and kiwi is one of my favorite fruits. I use blueberries for some baking/pancakes/waffles when it’s possible.

I also love those fruits. I'd cut down on fruit because of IBS but fortunately those are ones I can eat.πŸŒˆπŸ™πŸ‘πŸ˜‹

I'm afraid I don't eat any. The only fruit I like are Pink Lady apples and banana but the banana must be not too green and not too ripe!

That’s okay! Everyone has their own favorite fruit(s).πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

From this list choice, I eat orange or small orange types about once or twice a week. Raspberry’s from the garden in summer or the frozen ones from the freezer as a treat in jelly in winter. Occasionally have frozen cherries from the freezer.

Activity2004 profile image

That’s fantastic to hear! I eat small oranges since they have less potassium than the regular ones. Lower carbs., too.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

I buy loose frozen blackberries and raspberries. Microwave them and have them with a little sugar and Greek yoghurt. Yummy and good for you.

Regret don't eat much fruit at all due to allergies to pips and seeds.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to lgd333

It's okay. I don't eat certain fruits because they have too much potassium and carbs. in them for me, personally. :-)

lgd333 profile image
lgd333 in reply to Activity2004

I love fruit but its not worth the risk of constant allergic reactions, which I've now learnt over the years.

Activity2004 profile image

When having allergies to certain foods/drinks, always avoid them and let the doctor know if it's something new. Better safe than sorry. :-)

Hi Leah, great poll I love raspberries and gooseberries the most. 😊

Raspberries are really good in fruit salad and mashed up in raspberry jam (pieces are added to the jam). :-)

Thank you for saying that about the poll, Hidden ! I appreciate that very much. I have another idea for one that has to do with low carb. drinks. :-)

Not really sure about low carbs and high carbs and what is good and what is bad for me and what the intake should really be, have to admit I am slightly ignorant about these things, I do like bananas as well :) anyone can enlighten me

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to mascotty02

I hate to break it to you, but bananas are the worst for you in terms of blood sugar. A banana will spike your blood sugar similarly to 6 teaspoons of sugar! The diet doctor link above is a useful introduction.

dietdoctor.com/low-carb/fruits

mascotty02 profile image
mascotty02 in reply to mock_turtle

Thanks for that, I thought bananas were good for fibre as I am lacking in this and also D2 deficiency, had to have a couple of injections last year to boost it, I don't take sugar in any drinks unless its already in them, tea/coffee I use sweeteners

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to mascotty02

They may be good for fibre, but so are a lot of other things that don't have so much sugar. Eggplant/aubergine, avocado, brussel sprouts etc etc.

Sugar causes insulin to be released. Insulin is a fat storage hormone. When there is insulin circulating, your body is actively trying to store fat and it cannot burn fat. Keeping insulin down seems the best way to lose weight and generally stay healthy, avoiding things like diabetes. Bananas work against this.

Yes, I recently learnt a lot from Dr Gary Fettke's talk on You Tube, 'Is Fruit Good or Bad for You?' ! I had found, especially since a year of Shielding/Supermarket home deliveries, the 'standard' of fresh fruit appalling. There is, for me, no substitute for picking a fresh piece of fruit from a tree! I reflect on the lemons of Sorrento...and the figs, in Summer, from my own tree ...here in Wales!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to picinisco

This is good to hear and glad to know that you have home grown fruits. :-)

Rosepetal60 profile image

Bananas contain Potassium which is needed for help with muscle spasms such as cramp. Also I’ve read it helps dry skin from within and beneficial for other use in the body.

slipstick profile image
slipstick in reply to mascotty02

I like bananas but I'd never claim that they're low carb. If you eat them when they're still green they are lower in carbs and still have the same fibre and micronutrients, they're just not as nice and sweet.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584

There is no β€˜other’ option cos I would have selected that and said that I don’t really care or know of what low carb fruits I eat.A fruit is a fruit. As long as it is good for my health and it tastes good then that’s good enough for me :).

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to Matt2584

It is not at all clear that all fruit is good for us.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584 in reply to mock_turtle

Well, fruit can’t be bad for us/me cos if it was bad for me then I would be in poor health right now.

My diet used to be terrible and I rarely had fruit or veg back then.

Around that time is when I had real bad health problems.

Now I am eating more fruits and vegs and feel so much better for it so for me, it is pretty clear that fruit is good for me :).

slipstick profile image
slipstick in reply to Matt2584

That's a reasonable attitude if you're just into eating. But for what most people would think of as healthy eating you may need to take a little more care. If you just eat anything you like you'll have to be really lucky if that ends up being healthy.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584 in reply to slipstick

But the thing is, if you are one of those kinds of people who watches EXACTLY what they are eating to maintain a healthy diet, then in my opinion you are not fully enjoying your life and your not able to eat the things you would probably like to eat but can’t.

I understand if people have to be like that due to health problems, say.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Matt2584

Some fruits have lower carbs. than others depending on the size. One medium apple has 25-30 carbs., but a small/regular sized apple has 15 carbs.. Small oranges have 9-15 carbs. and a regular sized orange is 15-30. :-)

I eat blueberries every day. I chose these as unlike many fruits, they are not acidic so are much less likely to affect stomach and bladder.

picinisco profile image
picinisco

My low carbs fruit isn't on the list...tomatoes....which are, apparently, technically a fruit! I have my favourite low-carb vegetable , sweet peppers in the oven NOW, with tomatoes and garlic!

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to picinisco

Peppers are also a fruit, as are all the squashes (pumpkins, zucchini etc), and eggplant and cucumber....

I thought that only the berries are low-carb?

Does Avocado not count?

slipstick profile image
slipstick in reply to S11m

Well avocado is technically a berry so I guess it counts by your reckoning. Though the way I work berries are the only extremely low carb fruit while plenty of other are relatively low in carbs. I guess it depends if you're into extreme low carb/keto or if you just like to reduce carbs a bit.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to S11m

Avocado counts as a fruit that's low carb.. I eat them on a salad or on the side with a meal. :-)

I like my Strawberrys, Blueberrys, Raspberrys, Blackberries and Cranberry.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Lotus-Blossom

I love adding cranberries/craisins to my big salads whenever it's possible to get them. Really good taste mixed with the other items. :-)

I use the blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries for fruit salads and also add cottage cheese if we have it. :-)

Lotus-Blossom profile image
Lotus-Blossom in reply to Activity2004

I also add my cranberries to my salads to. Rest of my berries I like to have them with cereals. I create my own fruit salad to with the berries.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Lotus-Blossom

That's great to hear. I love when the fruits we want to use for fruit salads are in the house at the time so we don't have to wait. :-)

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to Lotus-Blossom

Agree with you on Strawberries, blueberries, etc, but I would draw the line at cranberries. I wouldn't really call them a fruit at all, seeing they are usually more than 50% added sugar (or some euphemistic alternative), I would regard them as a candy.

Lotus-Blossom profile image
Lotus-Blossom in reply to mock_turtle

The only cranberries I have is cranberry seeds. The fruit and seeds are full of antioxidants and various vitamins. They have goodness in them just like any other fruit, it just comes down to moderation.

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to Lotus-Blossom

I have never heard of eating cranberry seeds. And at least in the UK, google is only suggesting cranberry seeds for planting or for exfoliation, nothing about eating them.

The cranberry growers association describes cranberries as "unpalatable" without sugar, and at least in the UK, it's common for cranberries to be sold with more than 50% added sugar.

Eg sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/Pro...

Lotus-Blossom profile image
Lotus-Blossom in reply to mock_turtle

Those are the sweetened ones. The ones I mean are the ones that come out of the actual fruit itself. Cranberry seeds go with a lot of recipes and they are eatable. If you look it up on google you will see many recipes online. I have been into healthy eating for a long time and I know what I'm speaking about, but I know some people don't like the sour taste.

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to Lotus-Blossom

I have really made an effort to find cranberry seed recipes. Google isn't giving me any, or at least every one I click that seems to be be about cranberry seeds is a recipe with other seeds and cranberries.

If you are eating unsweetened cranberries, more power to you. As their lobbying group has told the FDA, they are very unpalatable without sugar. I haven't tried them, so don't know. You can get frozen cranberries in the UK, and probably fresh ones at times, but almost always they are saturated in added sugar (as in the craisins mentioned up thread).

I did miss you originally said "cranberry seeds", but as they don't seem to be a food in the UK, i will use that as my excuse.

Very happy if you can link to some recipes, but I won't be following them as I don't think I can get food grade cranberry seeds.

Lotus-Blossom profile image
Lotus-Blossom in reply to mock_turtle

My mum has corrected me of what seeds I have been having it is Pomegranate Seeds not Cranberry. I'm sorry for the miss information I'm under this injection for my fibroids and it is gives you the symptoms of the menopause which is making me very forgetful. My mum is laughing about it in saying to me "It is lucky that you don't work in a dangerous job." Again Sorry,

mock_turtle profile image
mock_turtle in reply to Lotus-Blossom

Lol! I am just laughing at the confusion. As someone experiencing the symptoms of menopause more directly, your excuse doesn't hold much water. But if you are suffering with hormones, I know it's a b!tch. Please use any excuse you like.

We are in agreement, which makes me happy. Pomegranate is a great addition, not super low carb, but low enough in the quantities you would add it. And delicious.

And menopause is rough. I don't think getting it early is a cake walk. Look after yourself and be gentle when you go off the hormones too. That's another wild swing, I bet.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to mock_turtle

It is very much possible for hormones to make your brain a bit wonky, I've known friends to get confused like this with "pregnancy brain", which is a hormone thing too. It may be that you were fortunate not to have this symptom with your menopause, but everyone experiences symptoms differently.

Lotus-Blossom profile image

Tell me about it. I just hope it's just the injection and that I don't get this way when I turn 50.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Mimirossi

Sorry to hear that about the allergies with citrus fruits. Is there something you can take for them-- along with avoiding them?

Mimirossi profile image
Mimirossi in reply to Activity2004

I just have to avoid citrus in all foods and cosmetics and cleaners. That includes citric acid and some E numbers. It is quite difficult sometimes, but I have got used to it after years and years of practice! If I get caught out I can have painkillers and inhalers and sit it out!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Mimirossi

Reminds me of goji berries and certain berries related to them. If I eat goji berries, I get severe low blood sugars because I use insulin to control my type 1 Diabetes. Since I'm a type 1, goji berries can't be used when using insulin since they lower the blood sugars too much and too fast. This was never told to me before eating them a long time ago. Had to use an emergency injection kit to raise the blood sugar.

Mimirossi profile image
