Never eat sandwiches but would have some 100% organic home made wholemeal bread with a small salad at lunchtime.

Preferably with salad.

I love salad sandwiches/ baguette but don’t have them very often. I especially like them with red onion and Hellmanns Mayo 😋 🌱

Have you tried Hummus mixed with tuna or egg salad instead of mayo? I do that all the time now.

Agoodenough profile image
Agoodenough in reply to Activity2004

Hi, no I haven’t as im vegan although im sure it’s very tasty. I love the Hellmanns Vegan Mayo 😋 sometimes I have it with mashed up chickpeas with lemon juice and black pepper. Which is about as close as you can get to a vegan “tuna Mayo” sandwich. 🙂🌱

Hummus is mashed up chickpeas! :-)

Lol I realise that but I was answering, have I had hummus with tuna or egg salad instead of mayo. 🙂

I meant that I mash the hummus with either egg salad or the tuna. It's the subsitute for mayo. :-) No worries! :-)

I see. Well it sounds like a healthy version and I bet it’s very tasty 🙂

It is! I use either Red Pepper or Olive flavors of hummus. :-)

I'm vegan too and I've been experimenting with jack fruit chicken salad, not very successfully so far, but I'll keep trying, have you ever made it?

Agoodenough profile image
Agoodenough in reply to INK45

Hi INK45, no I haven’t. To be honest I love almost anything vegan but I can’t get used to jackfruit. I made a jackfruit curry and also burgers with tinned jackfruit but there is something about it I don’t like. If you do like it I bet jackfruit mixed with vegan Mayo and a pinch of curry powder would make a coronation chicken style sandwich or salad 🙂🌱

I'm copying that Ali, sounds delish 😀

Panasonic breadmaker from the charity shop with half white, half wholemeal, half teasp of low salt and lots of seeds, linseed, sesame and chia or camallina all ingredients organic. Its taken a lot of time to perfect the recipe and the mistakes had to go to the chickens. All other bread tastes wrong now.

A slice of this with lunchtime 5 a day farty soup makes a person feel invincible, and glad to be working outside.

I don’t eat sandwiches etc as a general rule, too many Kcals in them for me. Ryvita with fatfree hummus or cottage cheese is nice though.

Why low fat? There's nothing wrong with saturated fat, we need it but please, not vegetable fat. Have a read of this: healthscams.org.uk/saturate...

I tend to have just one small slice of soya and linseed bread rather than two for a sandwich as I'm reducing carbs, but that leaves more room for the "filling" which for me is a "topping" . I ticked cheese, egg, salad, salmon, tuna and other because there are a lot more - quorn in many different forms, prefer almond butter to peanut butter, and many different cheeses my favourites being feta, Brie, and full fat cottage cheese.

I’m struggling to think of a favourite sandwich these days. My favourite ham is no longer available so don’t buy ham any more. Cashews are apparently not good for me. Which leaves smoked salmon and light cream cheese. But that would be a very rare occasion. So after some more thought, I think it is soft goats cheese & plain potato crisps, undecided about the bread. And I am looking for more ideas on this posting. Good poll.

I like my chicken and my salad at the same time. Sometimes with a Teriyaki sauce. Although I am now concerned about the effect some of these sauces have on my digestion.

Hi Jerry

Another good poll. I have chosen Hummus, Peanut Butter (although I love peanut butter straight from the spoon ha ha) and cheese, the cheese being Vegan. Love to have either red peppers or tomatoes with the fillings.

LOL...Thanks Alicia good choices 😊

Give me a spoon and most nut butters and try and stop me lol🤣🤣. I did make pecan nut butter, yuck is all I can say, so full of oil.

INK45 profile image
INK45 in reply to

I just found a recipe for pecan butter and I'm going to try and make it, if I can find fresh pecans, but let me ask you a silly question: would you know if this butter can be used for cooking-baking? I tried buying vegan butter but it did not taste good and I don't see why it should be any better than margarine. Before I turned vegan bread and butter was my favorite food and am still looking to replace it satisfactorily...

in reply to INK45

I used dry pecans and didn't like it at all. I've found a Vegan Butter which is delicious, it's made by Naturli and you can buy it in Ssinsburys, that's definitely my go to now it would be a little expensive to bake with though.

Current fave (though it changes) is mozzarella, pesto, tomato and olives with olive oil on wholemeal. I like some of the ideas above and am v partial to a chicken mayo, or even a BLT occasionally, but I've been put off that one by all the stuff about bacon being carcinogenic with the nitrites 🙁

I don't really eat bread, unless there's no alternative. I've never managed to find a commercial gf bread that doesn't taste like glue or make me ill, and I've never managed to make a good enough non-soda bread type bread myself. So when I have a wrap, I stick to using lettuce. Tuna mayo with red onion and cheddar cheese is a favourite then. I have been experimenting recently with home made gf wraps made from egg, cheese, carrot and courgette and they're pretty good though 😊

Tibblington profile image
Tibblington in reply to MTCee

I agree with you about commercial bread, most of it would make good window putty. We make all of our own bread from organic wholemeal flour, try it. There's a good recipe at: healthscams.org.uk/bake-you...

MTCee profile image
MTCee in reply to Tibblington

Thanks. The recipe looks great, unfortunately I can't eat gluten containing flours anymore.......and I really miss good bread ☹️ Before I was diagnosed, I used to make my own sour dough bread.
