We are vegetarian and we grow the bulk of our produce. The local farm shop has the eggs, cheese, milk etc and veg when we run out. I bake our bread which is made completely from seeds, nuts and eggs and if we have a treat, I bake that too.

This sounds ideal so good for you salab. 😊

I shop the outer ailes of the supermarket avoiding processed foods. Fresh foods, fish and chicken and meat when my husband is home. It's freezing stil and farmers markets will not open until summer expect for maples, and bacon, some from raised products eggs. That makes an extra run and a wonder Whole Fods does the organic markets needs. We eat keto high fat, and protein. Love my seafood will have risotto need carb's for my weight by endo's rules! Great topic Jerry, have a fantastic day!

Thank you for saying this cherv and you. 😊

I shop on line for my main shopping due to not being able to carry much. But local when I only need say bread. But when I can for a treat go to farmers markets. But they are expensive and I only have a pension. So have to be very careful. 😊

in reply to Caroline62

Great choices Caroline62 😊

I go to the Farmers Market when the season starts up. I go to the store near the house during the off-season.

Fantastic poll, Hidden !

in reply to Activity2004

Thanks Leah, I love shopping locally too and know that you like your weekly farmers market, so all good. 😊

I would always shop at a Farm Shop if there was one near me....but alas there isn't so Sainsbury's yet again - so bored of that store!

in reply to Flossie1920

Hi Flossie, I hope they have a good selection of fruit and veggies but I sympathise with you. 😊

I would love to have a farmer's market nearby, or second best, to get a veg box delivered. We tend to do our weekly shop at a bigger supermarket, because we need the better range of gluten free goods they stock.

I love all the answers from people who grow their own! We have a little balcony, and I grow some herbs, chillies and garlic out there, and I'm hoping for potatoes this year! And I get a lot of apples from dad's apple tree in autumn :) I'm hoping to move this year, and will start a little veg patch in the garden to grow veggies for our bunnies (we'll get their leftovers ;) )

in reply to Cooper27

Hi Cooper, I to love the replies from those who grow their own fruit and veg and find it very inspiring. I think its great you growing herbs garlic and chilli and good for your dad. 😊

Very good poll Jerry. I picked supermarket and local but I will be ordering veg boxes soon once my eating is vackbtk normal, seems like I'm getting there now.😁

Thanks Alicia, I hope you got on OK with your endoscopy last Tuesday, I've had a few of those so am very pleased that you're getting there, so good luck to you. 😊

in reply to

Hi Jerry, thank you and I had a Colonoscopy (I may have said Endoscopy as I've had that before as well) which was clear - good result. Just the Ultrasound to go on 19 March.

Someone posted something on the IBS network on HU about the right Probiotics for each individual, can't remember exactly when so I'm going to look for it later and If I can't find it I'll put up a post asking for it.

I'm eating quite well at the moπŸ˜€

in reply to

This is great news Alicia, it was me muddling the two up.

I'm glad that you're eating well and good luck. 😊

in reply to

Thank you Jerry and I'm definitely better than I was but not 100% as yet as tummy still upset.

I'm looking at the gut biome this afternoon, doing a little research. πŸ˜€

not to sound too pedantic but endoscopy refers to any tube procedure that looks inside the body cavities -so up /down and round about !

in reply to alchemilla12

Not a problem at all not wanting to sound pedantic. It's just that years ago when I had a tube down the throat which the medical team referred to it as an Endoscopy and when I had the tube up they referred to it as a Colonoscopy. It's just the way that I differentiate between the two.

alchemilla12 profile image
alchemilla12 in reply to

and sometimes they call the tube down gastroscopy so its just take your pick i guess :)

in reply to alchemilla12

Ah they do like their medical terms :)

I shop online and click and collect my main shop as it's easier because of my disability. What I don't get there I pick up locally. I don't eat meat, just oily fish a couple of times a week, about 6 eggs a fortnight, a small amount of goat or sheep cheeses and yogurt plus wheat free vegetarian/vegan meals the rest of the time. Lots of lentils, legumes, tofu, quorn and the occasional ready meal or snack although I usually cook in batches and freeze portions for later in the month. I grow fresh herbs and tomatoes in hanging baskets so the slugs don't get them as I have a very small, damp garden. Plus a few pots of various flowers that the slugs don't like and leave alone.

in reply to lawli56

You sound very resourceful to me and it sounds like you've got things nailed regardless of your disability and I admire that. 😊

Like some already posted I grow my own vegetables on my allotment so eat mainly seasonal food. It is also good for a physical workout!

in reply to Ib64

This sounds great to me so well done for having an allotment as you reap the rewards of your efforts and that is so positive. It's good exercise for mind and body methinks...😊

I shop in a foodhall, they don’t have the space for big displays of β€˜special offers’, and I think the fresh produce is better quality. I don’t buy packets of processed foods.

I would use farmers market if one was near us so tend only do it when on holiday

I can see from the replies that everyone has to shop according to availability and lifestyle the same as me I buy meat from a local butcher eggs from a local supplier when I have time to go there and my husband sometimes makes bread. It’s a juggling act avoiding the supermarket to find better food. Thank goodness for freezers!

in reply to

You're absolutely right here and the replies are interesting with a common interest and desire. I also shop locally and buy local produce. 😊

All of our dairy produce, fruit and vegetables are bought in our twice weekly street market where the sellers are mostly producers. We do a small top-up in the local supermarket for things like cleaning products but if the super market relied on us for general trade they'd soon go bust.

They do have a very good butcher's counter where the customer gets personal service and the buyer serves in the shop.
