A mixture, depends entirely on what it is and what it has to go with. I’ll steam, roast, lightly boil, BBQ, bake, stir fry, grill, whatever.

I use all those ways...as well as barbecuing when I get the chance (yum) and frying too. Basically anything goes for cooking veg, depending on what it is and what meal it's going with. But if I had to choose one method over them all, for me it's roasting. One of my all time favourite dishes is a tray of chunky-chopped veg (favourites would be mushrooms, butternut squash, carrot, aubergine, courgette, onion and brussel sprouts) roasted in olive oil til nicely crispy and blackened on bits, with a sprinkle of feta crumbles and seeds. Could happily have that for dinner every day.

Depends what the veg is though, and what it's served with, all ways are good

Raw, if possible.

Although I have chosen roasted vegetables I also steam and stir fry as well. I have to say though I love roasted vegetables especially beetroot.

Depends what meal I’m doing and what veg it is to how I cook. As mainly boil but do roast, steam, bbq, grill, bake and stir fry. If oil is needed I always use coconut

Mostly roast - so I can leave them in the oven and get on with something else - but I use the steamer too

To be fair, it depends what I'm cooking! I steam brocolli, cauliflower, green beans, etc. I prefer to stir fry mushrooms, peppers, onion, courgette, those types of veg.

Microwaving is good too as it is quick and retains all nutrients. Not like boiling which loses most nutrients in the water.

studies show that there is an increased loss of nutrients when you microwave

You must have read different studies. As you know there are different opinions on everything under the sun, by different ‘experts’. They also keep changing over the years so it’s best just to use your own common sense. I do find that a lot of vegetables, for example carrots and peas, taste much better than when boiled in water, no loss of flavour. Steaming may be the healthier option but is also more time consuming so when busy I find the microwave a very good alternative.

yes there are various different opinions on microwaving.- plenty for both sides of the fence. My gut instinct is to cook as " naturally " as possible.

I dont actually find steaming that time consuming - yes Im sure compared with microwaving it is -but I prefer it to boiling .

Hi everyone,

I've just voted for 'bake' but then realised there is also the option of 'roast' - so I'm now thinking that those two seem very similar. I also like to steam and stir-fry. I very rarely grill anything - probably because I don't like having to keep too much of an eye on the meal as it cooks.

I always steam greens, broccoli, cabbage, sprouts etc but I love roast veggies too. I often roast a tray of parsnips, carrots etc and we'll have them on two consecutive nights.

I learnt this at 'Slimming World'. Boil veg for 10 mins and dry off, spray a roasting tin with fry light, put any veg you like in , including tomatoes, onions, mushrooms etc. Spray them with fry light and a little salt ,and roast for 35 to 40 mins. gas mark 6

Sounds good, I must try

I use a microwave steamer and like my veggies still slightly crunchy or often I just eat them raw in salads. If it's a veg it's salad material.

I couldn’t choose just one - variety is the spice of life. But definately not boiled or soft!
