Fruit (usually apple or melon) and yoghurt.

Depends what my body tells me. I'm now undergoing treatment; some mornings I can handle porridge and fruit, other mornings my body tells me, DO NOT GO THERE, and I choose cereal instead!

Porridge, apple, prunes, blueberries, raspberries and yogurt ummmmm....

Voted for Grapefuit/any fruit but it's always in the form of a glass of home made smoothie...any fruit in the bowl each morning that is suitable/soft etc. with fruit juice providing liquid for whizzing up. I love it, and it's my way of getting my husband to eat fruit. I even hide kiwis and mangos in it this way which he'd turn down if offered neat :)

Tibblington profile image
Tibblington in reply to dynmore

Don't overlook the fact that "smoothies" deprive the body of the first stage of digestion, chewing.

I chose eggs, but I need a hot or warm breakfast usually. I am either cold in the morning from the A/C being on all night or from the heat being lowered in the winter so a hot coffee and breakfast is a must. If I wake up feeling warm or having a sore throat from dryness I might have cold cereal and juice... then coffee!

My other is kale, tomato and poached egg. No lie.

cereals, quick and easy, I can't stand the sight of porridge! Pancakes at weekends

I have a wide variety of breakfasts so I chose 'other' The one thing I can't have is cereal and milk (any sort of milk) *unless* I also have a substantial quantity of other food as well (so I keep it to Premier Inn stays!). If not, in a few hours I feel as though I am dying (and certainly can't function). Most peculiar. Porridge is fine.

This morning I have had orange juice (only because grapefruit juice seems to have disappeared, anyone know why? Half the population on statins?), filter coffee and drop scones made with grated courgette, fried egg and veggie bacon. Yum.

I am definitely a breakfast person. I'd rather go without any other meal than breakfast.

Tibblington profile image

Oh dear these ghastly statins! Sounds as though you share our outlook, breakfast is important.

CDreamer profile image
CDreamer in reply to GoogleMe

Grapefruit juice interacts with many medicines so lots of people can’t have it and now that companies have to warn about everything I think it’s just easier not to produce it.

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMe in reply to CDreamer

Oddly still perfectly possible to get the whole fruit and tinned segments, so I'll just have to switch to those. I'm not a huge fan of fruit juice but 50-100ml of a morning to wake the taste buds does me nicely.

Fran182716 profile image
Fran182716Prediabetic in reply to CDreamer

Well it would seem that there are lot of side effects to statins but I adore grapefruit so I'd have to see very compelling evidence that statins would benefit me before I'd take them!

CDreamer profile image
CDreamer in reply to Fran182716

It also interacts with many other meds so please do check if you take any medications - my husband doesn't take statins but was warned never to take grapefruit

Where is the bulk to get the system filled with the fruit?

in reply to Tibblington

I don't want or need "bulk" at breakfast.

Tibblington profile image
Tibblington in reply to

I can only quote a highly respected consultant surgeon specialising in the digestive tract. He said, "the intestines are organs of bulk which function at their best when properly loaded." He went on to point out that when high fibre food residue is not present then there is a tendency for patients to go on to develop diverticular disease and all of its complications.

Please understand that I was trying to offer a constructive comment not criticism.

Enjoy your breakfast!

Very interesting Tibblington , I never knew that and thank you for sharing. Maybe this is why I always love to have nuts included with my porridge/cereal, I have chopped almonds on top as well as a banana and natural coconut i.e. no added sugar😀

Tibblington profile image
Tibblington in reply to

Hello Crazyfitness, there's an article written by a surgeon all about diverticular disease if you are interested and you can find it at: healthscams.org.uk/divertic...

I too have learned a bit.

Can't live without my porridge. It sets me up for the day. I use jumbo oats make it with water then add a spoonful of extra thick double cream.

Tibblington profile image
Tibblington in reply to GrandmaDylan

Sounds wonderful. If you like Jumbo Oats try five cereal porridge made with rolled cereals. Oats, Rye, Rice, Barley and Wheat; we can get them already mixed. Soak them over night and then cook in the morning; we love it.

Home made muesli with homemade yogurt as my 1st choice with porridge and soft fruit as my 2nd.

Tibblington profile image

Our breakfast has three courses, an egg, boiled, poached or scrambled, followed by porridge made with five rolled cereals, oats, barley, rye, rice and wheat (strongly recommended), finally a slice of home-made wholemeal toast and marmalade all accompanied by café au lait (whole milk from the farm) made with Expresso coffee. All taken leisurely. Probably one of the most important meals of the day to recharge the empty boiler; that's why it is called break-fast. Kids who perform badly at school are often found to have left home without any breakfast.

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMe in reply to Tibblington

Probably requires some solid farm work for that calorie content but sounds delicious!

GrandmaDylan profile image
GrandmaDylan in reply to Tibblington

I am type 2 diabetic and trying to eat lowish carb. I know that oats are carbs but I just really enjoy them plus they fill me up. There's more carbs in milk than double cream which is why i make them with water and a generous spoon of extra thick double cream. I'd love to have your home made toast and marmalade but I'd end up with carb overload. Enjoy your wonderful breakfast 🐣🐔🐄

Tibblington profile image
Tibblington in reply to GrandmaDylan

Our toast is made from our home made wholemeal bread made from our home milled wholemeal flour from organic wheat. The bread is therefore substantial but overloaded less with carbohydrates as all of the wheat bran is included. That is important as there are vitamins in it not to mention gums which are good for bowel action - dare I mention.

I do understand your problem especially as it seems you are using diet as your control. Have a look at: healthscams.org.uk/diabetes... you might just find it useful; I found it interesting.

Best wishes,

ATM it's generally cornflakes or rice crispies with soya milk and fruit. Sometimes fruit with greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey and a sprinkling of granola or spelt crispbread with honey and fruit. In the winter it's usually porridge with soya milk and dried fruit or a banana.

I couldn't give up my cereal, it's the best meal of the day. 50g mini shredded wheat + 10g Malted wheaties + whole milk. No sugar sprinkled though, I gave that up 12 months ago. I do find I have to wait til 10.00am to eat it otherwise I'm hungry again by 11....but a sacrifice worth making, I would miss it too much if I gave it up.

Eggs with crumpets or bagels. Need a boast to gain weight only one crumpet and 1/2 thin bagel whole wheat. Winter might have Keto pancakes and blueberries. Yummy!

Thank you Leah, yoghurt is a great choice too. 😊

I am never hungry for breakfast a cup of tea seems to satisfy. If I have anything to eat it will be a banana or other fruit. But I'm always ready for lunch. I am not sure this is the best way but sometimes if I eat early in the day I can't stop and am constantly nibbling!!

I get terrible fatigue because of ME so cereal is my go to, easy. If someone else is making breakfast then i don't mind what else I have :)

Fran182716 profile image

Well I couldn't vote as it wouldn't let me select anything but it would have been "other" anyway as I wanted to select three of the choices.

If I'm not at work or I'm working a late shift I'll give the dog a good walk first and it will usually be half a grapefruit followed by a hot breakfast likely egg based.

If I'm at work for 8am I can't eat that early, I'll get hungry around 9-10 am so it's got to be portable or microwaveable. It's often porridge with berries in the winter and when the weathers warmer a substantial portion of full fat Greek yoghurt and berries, occasionally other fruit.

I love Porridge on cooler days topped with seeds nuts and apricots but since we have been having this lovely weather I’ve been enjoying muesli with a bit of All bran and half a weetabix. As a treat I do love seeded sourdough toast with marmalade 😊

I've put porridge Jerry but I've yet to make overnight oats. 😀

Another goid poll and thank you.

I'm currently still on my auto-immune paleo diet, so I've been making coconut banana pancakes for breakfast this week :) I usually make a coconut breakfast bake, next week I'll be making sweet potato and apple cupcakes. I really hope I can be back on porridge by the winter though - I love a bit of porridge, with a little bit of nut butter drizzled over.

Breakfast really doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve tried many times over the years to have breakfast but it always leaves me feeling sluggish and yuk.

So instead my breakfast (I know unhealthy) is a few ciggies and Diet Pepsi and I’m set up for the day and good to go

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to veganista

Do you cut out the pepsi when you try to introduce breakfast? That might be what makes you tired and sluggish.

veganista profile image
veganista in reply to Cooper27

Hi Cooper27 Thankyou for your reply . No I don’t cut the Diet Pepsi / Diet Coke as it’s my go to drink as I don’t drink tea or coffee xx

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to veganista

Oh well. Cutting out diet coke in the morning caused me problems, so worth checking it wasn't the same thing for you. It can also be down to what you eat. Quick release carbs cause an energy crash soon after you eat them, but maybe some sliced apple dipped in nut butter would be worth a try?
