Ticked walking and other. 'Other' is when I push a g'child in a buggy at a fair pace. This shows as 'outdoors bike' on my Fitbit. I don't care what it shows as long as it counts! 25 mins pushing uses loads of calories and I usually feel the benefit as a cardio workout etc. Every little helps.

Sounds excellent excercise to me, I see mums jogging pushing buggies on the cycle path...keepers the ticker pumping 😊

Thank you for this Hidden , I have voted for Weight training, Cycling (mine at present is an indoor exercise bike) and walking. What an excellent idea putting this on HE.

Here's hoping you get many responses as it looks like you have so far.

My exercise is limited to a little gardening (mostly on my hands and knees) and cleaning the house. I use an electric wheelchair for any distance more than about 40-50m.

in reply to ClareCrip

Hi ClareCrip, you make an effort so good for you and I bet your garden looks good because of your efforts, so thanks for your contribution 😊

Oh no! I didn't realize this was a separate poll from the first. All the original votes and comments are gone. Oh well. I thought I was adding on to my original results, so I clicked on "Other". In the first poll, I clicked on "Weight Lifting", "Running", "Aerobics/Dancing". There's no option to go back and edit.

I exercise daily. I have acreage and animals, so there is lots of manual labor involved and there is riding. I also go dancing, take a fitness class, run, and lift weights just for fun. I lift weights 1-3 times a week, but I'm already lifting all kinds of things daily. Lifting weights or resistance training is critical to maintain lean muscle mass and strong bones as we age.

in reply to ShootingStars

Hi ShootingStars, I'm really sorry about that and I'll be more careful next time. You have a busy and active and healthy life style so good for you. And I like the lift weights for fun as that shows you enjoy it. 😊

Hi Jerry! It's ok. :-) I was just too quick to respond, add "other" and hit the reply button.

Oh yes! I enjoy all of the activities that I do, no matter what I'm doing. Even the less glamorous activities. :-)

Gardening is a fantastic way to get exercise. There’s a garden at the center where I work during the week.

in reply to cherv

Sounds to me like you're run ragged cherv with out extra exercise, there's an article in the papers saying a few minutes spent gardening can prolong our lives and the same goes for a 10 minute stroll 😊

Do not forget chasing the kids about, that's a blessing but try on a grammy. LOL Truth I keep up well, walking 2-3 miles a day does not bother me as long as it is warm. Above degrees.

I ride the exercise bike that works my arms too and I do some free weights along with a punching bag. The punching bag is great for taking out aggression and making me feel better emotionally. Some days it me hitting it like its my depression and knocking it out of my mind.

in reply to 2getbetter

Hi 2getbetter, I like what you say about the punch bag I have a small log burner and buy a ton of logs and some are way to big so I have a axe and thats amazing HIT (high intensity training) which I do with a set of weights every morning too. 😊

In the last year I've gone from being pretty unhappy to being a positive happy person agiain .Changed jobs got my health issues sorted and lost the extra weight gained due to be illness and stress . All good now and heading for a lovely holiday with my partner . A few small changes and life is good again for me . I'm so lucky ,and get up every morning looking forward to the day instead of feeling awful . I always look on the positives in my life now and I know how lucky I am .

Jerry, another poll might be on the number of hours cardio one does per week. That is exercise that get the heart going to the point of sweating. This to my mind is more critical for good health. I'd like to see people getting upwards of 4 hours per week of continuous heart pounding stuff.

in reply to andyswarbs

Thanks for the suggestion Andy, its a great idea, we intend to have polls regularly so I will definitely add this to our list. 😊

I try to swim at least twice a week, moderate walking as I have arthritic knees the 'other' is an aquarobic class, house hold chores and gardening when the weather permits.

in reply to ali-may

Hi ali-may, a little gardening or a short stroll can help us live longer and healthier, so good for you not letting arthritis stop you 😊

I have ticked: Cycling, Jogging/Running, and Walking. Those are things I do regularly - but I'd like to start to do some committed 'weight training' - or rather 'Strength Training' would be my preferred term for it - so far I just 'dabble' - but would like to make Strength training a more regular feature of my exercise regime - so I will work myself up to doing that, and maybe at some point in the future, I can say I'm doing it 'regularly'.

I absolutely love 'Walking' - and I try to do some Running/Jogging at least once a week - and participate in the 'Tortoise & Hare Club' over in the NHS weight loss community, which is really great fun, and a very supportive group of fellow 'Tortoises & Hares'. :-)

My cycling is done at the gym on a stationary bike. Usually manage to do 10km (broken into two 5km sessions) and alternate with other gym activities (running on the treadmill) and also Rowing.

Was there a mention of Rowing - I should have ticked 'Other' and mention that I like to do some rowing on the Rowing machine at the gym.

I really enjoy exercise. I am also incapable of giving a short concise response... lol

Zest :-)

Thank you Zest, I think that’s it great that we share what we do to stay healthy so this is great.

When I first started with weights I had a set of aerobic weights and I’d have quick bursts of arm curls whilst watching TV and that really got me into it and then I bought a set that go up to 10Kg each and I can do an intense session now with 10Kg which really makes my heart pump and quickly so for HIT exercise 3 mins at a time works wonders.

I read that golf was in the top 5 forms of excercise but not many on here play and I thought martial arts might have had more, so rowing would have been a better choice and we’ll know for next time.

So thanks again for the feedback. 😊

Zest, you must be in fantastic shape. When I was young I did ran and swam trials, did not lift weight and teach classes until college. Keep walking-running and you get those to miles with your treadmill work outdoors. Have a wonderful day.
