Buying a Fitbit was the best investment in my health I've ever made...well that combined with joining Weightwatchers last year. The FB (or indeed any similar tracker) is a great motivator and I aim for 10k steps daily but find that pretty hard to achieve currently. But it has a setting which prompts me to get up and walk at least 250 steps each hour. A big benefit.

Yes, I have set up the reminder for walking if I don’t get it done on my own! My Fitbit Flex2 was a gift from my brother.

10k steps is really good. Well done.

I do an hour on my tread mill for 6 days a week and we also take our dogs out in the morning and last thing at night.

Plus I do have a pedometer to keep me on track.

What about "No I don't wear a fit bit but I walk an hour a day"??

You can actually tick both of those answers! :)

Ok thank you. I didn't realise it had a multiple answer option. Unfortunately having ticked No fitbit I cannot now go back and tick anything else.

The HU system won’t let anyone redo the poll answers once a person chooses the answers, unfortunately.

No I don't have a Fitbit, I have a pedometer which I loved using but I don't use it at the moment as it's too demotivating to compare to what I used to do before I developed a bad back last summer.

Now six months on I'm gradually being able to increase exercise, this week was my first time back at aquafit, so I'm feeling really positive about that even though my walking is still slow.

Hopefully at some point the pedometer will be useful again, but if not I will find a different way to measure non walking excercise 😀

Sorry to hear about your back. When your mobility is affected it can really bring you down in many ways. You sound really determined to get well. Aqua fit sounds great.

Great that you're back to your Aquafit now, Fran182716 - that sounds enjoyable. :-)

I love my Fitbit had it for 2 years I just have 2 life time badges left to get for distance, I think I average about 15k Steps a day. I am lucky enough to be able to walk to work. Best in a day 65k but I did run a marathon that day🙄

Wow Prin - 65km in a day!!! I wondered how you got that badge. I don't think I will ever get that particular badge, so I'll just admire yours. :-)

No unfortunately just 65,000 Steps ;) I don’t think I will ever get further.... they go up to 100,000 Steps in a day 😳

lol - sorry - I wasn't thinking straight when I said 65km - that would be incredible to go that far... lol But 65,000 steps is amazing! Well done you! :-) That's still 48.75kms. Wow!!!

I use my mobile for step counter - struggle to walk etc due to hips & back probably due to weight!!!

Hi Leah, great poll and perfect timing with it being Healthy Heart Month.

I think that fitness devices are fantastic because we can see exactly how many steps we've taken how far we've been with heart beat etc.

I cycle a lot and I tend to go out for 20 miles 30Km 4 or 5 times a week depending on the weather and I really like the map facility when cycling. 🚵‍♂️

Jerry 😊

Keep up the great work, Hidden ! I own a stationary bike, but I haven't had time to use it these days. I find that walking and running around after my Nephew and Neice are all I can do now. There's no time to sit and use a bike here at my house.

I have severe osteoarthritis in my hips, lower back and knees so walking for fitness is a no-no for me as it's very painful as does more damage than good. Plus the fact that I've never found a pedometer that can actually record all my steps since I walk with crutches and don't have a normal gait. However I recently bought a new semi-recumbent X-bike (low impact), as my old one doesn't fit in my new place, to which I can connect a fit bit so I may get one.

I wear my fit bit everyday .Bought it two years ago .I usually do 15000 to 20000 plus steps a day .Im lucky as I can do a lot of walking at work and walking my dog keeps me on track .

My partner has one too which along with using my fitness pal app we have lost Five and a half stone between us .Ive got another half stone to go and he wants to lose another couple .

Even if I didn't have a fit bit I'd still be as active because of what I do every day .

Hope you all have a happy healthy and fit 2018 .😃🌻🌺

I’ve a fair idea of how active I am. If my body has stopped moving, and hurts like heck, then I’ve been more than active enough! After 3 or 4 days of that, I know it’s time for a rest day. I don’t need a record of my heart rate, steps or whatever.

Yeah, I must say I don't really see the need for one: your body tells you (sometimes loudly!) if you've done enough exercise.

I realise gadgets can be motivational for some people, but I suspect they lull more than a few users into a false sense of security: hey, I did 5000 steps today, no need to push myself to do anything more.

Personally I'd rather blast out 20 minutes on the treadmill and see that I've got faster (or feel that I'm sweating less than last time). The rate of improvement when you really push yourself hard can be quite incredible: if people like lawli56 can do it, despite severe physical limitations, then the rest of us should be able to as well. Check out this guy if you ever feel the need for a bit of motivation:

youtube.com/watch?v=QSWzKWR...

I'm not convinced that "Passive exercising" - chalking up everyday activity as actual exercise - does any long-term good unless users are making a conscious effort to walk further and faster with every passing day.

I've chosen 30 minutes a day but there are some days where I do 1 1/2 hours but that includes cardio (30 minutes), physio, weights and tummy exercises.

I enjoy using my Fitbit and wear it all the time, as it also produces data on sleep, which I find interesting.

This week I did 88,900 steps (equating to 66.67km) and that is fairly typical of my weekly step-count. I always try to aim for a minimum of 10,000 per day, and any extra is a bonus. I really love walking, and I also do a bit of jogging and running too.

I am always inspired by Prin - who keeps me on my toes. She always does more steps than me. :-)

My husband made me laugh, as he looked at this 'Poll' and said 'How can you select or do 'All of the above' - and I agree, that sounds impossible... Glad to see that noone selected that option. :-)

Zest :-)
