Unfortunately i have an intolerance to most fruits, unless cooked, & all vegetables except white ones so bit difficult having a healthy diet. Best dietitians can do for me is recommend meat (except poultry which I also can't eat) sandwiches on white bread for most meals!

with no intended criticism , have you tried working to improove your digestion as I have found people with lots of intolerances to fairly " normal " foods " need to stoke the fire as it were.

Exactly the same healthy food as winter, but nore fruit & salads.

Fat free & low fat foods aren't healthy, unless they are naturally so.

Agree with you Leverette as the low fat foods are normally laden with sugar

Even worse when they're laden with artificial sweeteners or other toxic chemicals.

Definitely, so wish the food industry would stop messing round with food and bring it back to its natural state!

The food industry makes its money from peddling sh*t, & attracts tax breaks selling stuff that makes people I'll. Disturbing that so many people fall for the advertising. Worse still, real food costs are premium.

in reply to BadHare

Oh yes, I couldn't agree with you more and of course, as you say, the 'real' food is very costly!!

Wouldn't it be great to actually win some money and not have to think on how much the 'unadulterated' food is costing us!!

I don't mean to sound like I'm poor here but like most people can only afford certain things!!

I certainly can't afford to eat everything I'd like, & have to keep within a tight budget. However, I see the difference compared to people I know who eat only processed "food" & probably spend the same amount.

in reply to BadHare

I don't think there are many of us that can but all we can do is do our best and buy what we can afford. People seem to spend far too much these days on quick fast food i.e. takeaways/MacDonalds and they think they are cheap but end up costing more than making your own food from scratch.

Why is fat free yoghurt on the list?? Processed fat free foods are no longer considered healthy!

If it said: "full greek yoghurt" then yes that's what I eat , on its own, with banana or berries, or added to a curry or savoury sauce, its very flexible.

Fat free Greek yogurt is no less healthy than full fat. Fat free products are generally packed with sugar to compensate but in a single ingredient food there is no added anything. Likewise fat free cottage cheese etc.

Just because dietary fats are no longer considered the evil they formerly were, it is not follow they have to be present for something to be healthy.

Ok thank you , that is interesting......still tastes better though πŸ˜‰

well yes actually fat free /low fat yoghurts are less healthy as by removing the fat you are removing the fat soluble vitamins such as A and D that are found in milk

If you are not getting adequate vitamin A & D elsewhere i could see that might be an issue. On the other hand it contains more protein and 50 calories less per 8oz, and most of the fat content of fullfat yogurt is saturated fat, so, depending on what your health requiremets are, could equally be more healthy.

but a huge number of people in this country at least are deficient in Vit D -the lack of which is implicated in a huge number of diseases not least auto immune conditions. And the myth of saturated fat being bad for you has been debunked by many studies

Hmmm. Dietary fat is not the demon it once was but that does not mean saturated fat ad lib is a good thing. Even, or especially, if one is on a high fat diet, controlling the quantity of saturated and trans fats is very important.

what are specialty dishes?

Activity2004 profile image

Homemade items.

in reply to Activity2004

Well that is me as well then as I mainly cook from scratch, I don't like processed packaged food

I'd class a speciality dish as something with expensive unusual ingredients.

I use the term clean food to describe something made from basic unprocessed ingredients. Homemade doesn't necessarily mean healthy, but perhaps I'm splitting hairs or getting lost in translation .

All of the above. I love avocado and tomato and olives. Probably some Mediterranean type food?

I can't quite what the results indicate, as it seems its possible to tick the individual items As Well as the box for 'all of the above" so is this distorting ?

If they are All of above, then click just that box.

elliebath profile image
elliebath in reply to Activity2004

Yes I did that. What I meant was : if one person ticks Veg and Yoghurt , and a second person ( who also eats veg yoghurt ) simply ticks "some of above" , thats exactly the same thing . I dont see that the "some" and "all" categories are needed. But it's your survey ,you know best 😊
