I LOST MY BROTHER ON THE 9TH OCTOBER BUT EVERYONE THAT KNEW HIM HAVE ALSO LOST. ESPECIALLY MY PARENTS AND HIS CHILDREN

WE ARE ALL LIVING ON HOPE, EVERY SMALL STEP AND ALL THE KINDNESS / LOVE AND SUPPORT THAT PEOPLE HAVE GIVEN!!

HE HAD A BACK OPERATION WHICH WENT WELL, HE WAS TURNED AFTER THE OP WAS COMPLETED AND WENT INTO CARDIAC ARREST - WE WERE EVENTUALLY TOLD HE IS SERIOUSLY BRAIN DAMAGED AND PARALYSED FROM THE WAIST DOWN, HE IS NOW ON NEURO WARD IN A GREAT HOSPITAL IN THE MIDLANDS AND WE WAIT EVERY DAY FOR NEWS

THE UPDATE IS HE IS IN POST COMA STATE AND MINIMAL AWARENESS.

WE HAVE HAD TIMES OF HIM RESPONDING, FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, EYES FOLLOWING PEOPLE AROUND, HAPPY FACES, BLOWING KISSES AND MOVEMENTS PARTICULARLY WITH LEFT ARM - WE HAVE HAD FACES OF ANGER, SAD, POSSIBLY PAIN, SCARED AND FRIGHTENED WE ARE TRULY GREATFUL FOR THE SPECIAL TIMES WE ARE HAVING BUT THEY ARE LIMITED AND WE WANT MORE.

THIS IS A JOURNEY THAT WE ARE ON AND WE DONT KNOW LIKE EVRYONE ELSE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION AS THIS WHERE IT GOES ...........

I feel for you all but stay positive and understand that every movement and expression is progress and although it may be very slow the brain is amazing and be patient coz I'm sure he will continue to make progress as the early signs sound promising!

Tell him jokes, dance around him, read to him, massage him..... Do everything you possibly can to create fun around him as that certainly helped our son!

Keep strong! X

Hello dotty1971,

Very sorry to hear of the situation with your brother - our thoughts are with you all at this difficult time.

You might be interested in the information on our website about reduced consciousness states: headway.org.uk/Coma-and-PVS... .

At the bottom of the page, you can download our 'Coma after brain injury' factsheet, and also 'Coma stimulation: suggested activities'. Together, these may give you some more information about your brother's condition and some things that you and the rest of the family can perhaps do, with agreement from the doctors.

If you would like to talk things through in confidence, please don't hesitate to call our helpline on 0808 800 2244 or email helpline@headway.org.uk. They can provide details of local Headway groups too, who can be a valuable source of local support.

Best wishes,

Headway.

My husband clearly remembers things from when he was in a drug induced coma to let his body heal. Keep talking to him, bring in some music to keep him stimulated, don't ever give up hope. I'll be thinking of you and hoping you get a good outcome x

take one day at a time. It is all you can do.Try to show you Understand how he feels even if you don't, be patient with him and ignore any anger he shows as it will be frustration. Don't be to positive around him or to negative.Make him smile even if you cannot see it.. we are here for you as you must show your are for him x
