explanation cards

I do think we need to carry some sort of easy read explanation of how we are to show to the people who stare and look for too long. A complete stranger showed me a newspaper cutting about brain injury and said it was him.we had the biggest hug and I said and me.we both were tearful it was quite emotional. I made my own cards to show people. Hugs to you all xxx

Headway do a card, I have one of the older ones.

headway.org.uk/supporting-y...

Which is a photo ID as well we are more likely to be arrested etc for simply being well different.

In terms of help and what not, going to my local group and meeting others like myself, plus folks who can signpost help and so on has been hugely helpful.

Exactly what I was going to suggest.Get a Headway ID card.

I have one but not necessarily to prevent getting arrested :), but more cos it makes me feel that more confident when I am roaming the streets on my own.

To be honest, I am not aware of it really but if I were to collapse in the middle of the street then people could see the badge that is worn around my neck and contact the number that’s on the card.

I will add that the writing on the card can be small and difficult for some to read which is why I have a double+sided badge holder and on the other side is another Headway card that was given to my in the late 90s and it says in big, bold writing,

“I A SURVIVOR OF A BRAIN INJURY…”

Get a headway card. I found mine was really helpful when cutting through the BS in the health system, DWP, legal system etc. The card validates your condition and those in a place of 'power' need to adapt to you.

They’re a good idea and the new ones are tailored to the carrier of the card

Haven't got a Headway card, and will be making enquiries. But it cheers me up enormously to see that you decided to make a card and use it, Jill777.

Wonderful.

It makes me wonder what you said in it. Did it have a picture, or just words? I have a vision of artists competing to make a card which shows what might happen inside someone's head, once their brain is injured.

Yes, having a better day.

Will take out my sketch pad and brushes to see what emerges.
