Stroke symptoms but not a stroke?

My Husband had a stroke in 2015 which left him with a bit of left sided weakness but generally recovered well. Since then - there have been several times where he has displayed stroke symptoms - unable to swallow, dropping face, worse weakness and numbness. But hospitals say not another stroke. There seems to be a pattern that when he is lying completely flat it brings it on. I have checked his blood pressure and it does go very low when he is lying flat - 92/58. Would this be something that could bring stroke symptoms on? No one at the various hospitals seems to know anything about it. Once a stroke has been ruled out - they don’t seem to bother and I have been told low blood pressure when lying down is not a problem. Does anyone else know or have any of these problems after having a stroke? Thank you.

Dystonia..looks like a stroke.Mine was diagnosed after they thought my stroke like symptoms were seizures/epilepsy N werent,plus million other theories.

Ive had a stroke n multiple Tia's since my stroke,plus 4 ? concussions.

Thank you Hippolove 1 . Sometimes I think the drs don’t understand half what is going on I’m our bodies.

They dont,but we have to be our own advocate for our own bodies (That's what I've learned after many many years).

It could be TIA. If he recovers quickly. He should have an eco cardiagram to check his heart. Also they need to check for blockages in the carotid artery

This is basic.

Migraine can have stroke symptoms but not swallowing issues

He needs reviewed ASAP. Go to GP or a new Gp

You need to say. Please explain this to me

Thank you Headache 21. He has had his cartoid artery’s checked and they was clear. He already has heart problems - he suffers Angina and a leaking heart valve. Normally he does get over them fairly quickly. But this last time has left his leg just dragging for over 2 weeks. I will have to be more forceful with GP - I’m not usually very good at that.

Hi there Anxiousarabella. I'm afraid I can't help with the medical symptoms. But I wanted to let you know that in 2016 I had a 'stroke mimic' too. I had all the signs of a stroke including left sided weakness, droopy mouth, inability to walk or use left hand etc. I was rushed to hospital (Luton & Dunstable) and they did multiple CT and MRI scans but could not find any evidence of a Stroke. The consultant then told me it was a 'mimic' brought on by stress to the body and it not getting all of what it needed. I was in a wheelchair for a while and needed intensive physio to get me sorted. But I did eventually recover.

Bless you - it’s very scary when it happens. My Hubby’s leg needs physio but at the moment they won’t do it - I’m trying to get him walking with a walker hoping that might help. It’s happened to him about 6 times now and each time they do the CT and MRI but they show nothing. I just wish someone could find the reason why it keeps happening.

That's awful. I really feel for you both. A walker is a good idea although my physio did say I should try not to get too dependent on such devices. for a good few monthsI just did loads of leg exercises to get mine strong again. Later I found just walking round the block holding a family member's arm did me a lot of good. Although I did lose confidence in my own sense of balance and was scared the first time I walked alone outside. Very best wishes to your hubby for a speedy recovery. When I have to declare I had a 'stroke mimic' on medical forms I get lots of questions as most people don't know what I'm talking about.
