First acute illness was after ABI 9 mOnths ago I started with symptoms of a UTI a few days started on antibiotics this is my first Iillness since my brain injury and oh my god I feel horrendous has anyone else experienced this after their own BI I’ve had many UTI’s & kidney infections in the past but think this time round is the absolute worst I’ve felt I was also hit by a bad bout of fatigue also which definitely does not help not looking for medical advice just wondering if anyone else feels more unwell with acute Illness following ABI??? Than before

Hi, I've had two hospital stays with viral infections after my ABI. And ive felt dreadful with both.

A cold can lay me low for more than a week.

Hi Cwar, when I was in rehab I kept getting it's, set an appointment was made to see urologist after an ultrasound showed a problem with my kidney! I had an operation to have a stent inserted. 6 months later the stent was removed. What's a good for six months or so and then I was started getting infections, until 2016, an infection I had tracked from the bladder to the kidney, and I was hospitalised and felt like death warmed up!

Fingers crossed, but after being referred back to my urologist and taking antibiotics fot 6 months to one year, to prevent further infection, no more infection!

I am on medication for an overactive bladder, which I always assumed was due to my kidney problem. It's apparently quite common for those who've had a head trauma to get.

So I know exactly how you feel and can deeply sympathize. It's HORRIBLE!

I have had a couply of bouts of different acute illnesses since my ABI four years ago and each time everything has been much more intense and unpleasant. It had been quite frightening at times. I suppose our brains are dealing with everything differently. I am currently waiting for an iron infusion for anaemia - having extra tiredness on top of the ever present fatigue from the brain injury is horrendous, I completely get what you mean about that.

I think any illness post Bi is a challenge Cwar. I had a gall bladder infection & gallstones12months after my haemorrhage and spent a week in hospital dragging my drip stand to & from the loo. I was transferred to a side ward for my dignity's sake on the second day and never felt so wretched in my life.

I'm ashamed to say I tried to discharge myself so I could get home to take an overdose, just to escape the exhaustion, but a lovely consultant/surgeon came to see me promising to temporarily increase my Diazepam, and to remove the gall bladder ASAP.

The surgery was straightforward and required only a 12hr stay in the surgical ward. Collecting me later, my son asked me did I know the date was exactly one year on from my brain-coiling date. 😲

Hope you're well over the worst now m'love. I think emotionally and physically we all struggle more since our brain injuries. Cat x
