Fantastic news.

Do you know if you drive and pay road tax you can reply for half of it back from date you’ve been awarded PIP (mobility)

I’ve applied on behalf of my husband. Every penny saved helps 👌🏻

Apply not reply lol 😂

Hi Jason I'm glad you got pip after them messing you around mines with appeals now

in reply to Tracy331

Don't fret as 70percent of appeals win their cases. Would love to know any other job where you don't get dismissal for getting 70 percent of decisions wrong.

I know I've also had to apply new claim as well since stroke and operation things are a bit worse medically wise

Yeah do. They will reimburse you They will also tell you date when your new year starts for paying road tax and you send details two weeks before due date of car and a cheque for half of what you would normally pay to them for year.

I googled what am I entitled too with pip award and that came up! Shocking how this information isn’t readily available! 🙄

I've worked for 35 years, never claimed a penny. Had brain heamorrage in January, got no help at all with benefits it's a scandal. Still waiting for my universal credit fitness for work assessment despite being under a sick note since January. Despite me pestering them on a weekly basis and asking my job coach, it's a joke as I'm on the minimum of everything with universal credit. Pip has now allowed me to get straight with my bills.

Yes it needs a big shake up the system is a disgrace I’ve been fighting for years to get PIP for my husband who also worked for NHS nearly 30 years when he had his TBI its seems to be if you’ve worked all your life you get penalised! 😡 Don’t give up re ESA keep pestering them I did for my husband got assessment and got put into support group doesn’t need to seek work or work related activities yet pip had scored him 0. 🤔 was over moon when I did mandatory reconsideration and won for him.

in reply to Tia-01

The stress it has all put me under when at the worst time in my life to cope with it is disgusting, but I should be on more money as unable to work but they don't seem to want to assess me I'm fighting universal credit to try and get assessed maybe now I get pip I can use the disability discrimination act to force their hand.

I fought for ESA for my husband eventually got it, person told me he wouldn’t qualify for it as he was self employed, I argued the case as I had searched government website for information, she said she would speak to her manager who told her to put application through as I made such a fuss but went on to say to me that he’d get nothing 😳 but he did then a few weeks later he got assessed and dr decided he was unfit to work and put in support group..

ESA assessment much nicer than PIP one. As you have been awarded PIP I’m sure you will get the ESA higher rate

Make sure you take someone with you if possible and tell them you couldn’t have got there yourself! Park at or as near the assessment centre as you can.

Tell them you wouldn’t have remembered to go if not reminded! This was true in my husbands case as he forgets things. It is indeed the most stressful time as you say and as if it’s not bad enough trying to cope with the hand you’ve been dealt. Universal credit is a joke so many people not getting the help they so much need and deserve.

in reply to Tia-01

I will get it, just they don't seem to be bothered about having me assessed, I've been badgering them for 3 months, at least it's all in writing but they haven't even sent me the forms yet, I've been under a sick note since January 28th.

Tia-01 profile image
Tia-01 in reply to

You should hear soon then I’m sure it can take up to 3 months for it to be done but my husband must have been lucky then. I hope you don’t have to wait much longer 🤞

in reply to Tia-01

If my sick note started Jan 28th it's already been over 4 months it's a joke.

That’s a joke! Get you local MP involved he/she will contact them ask for reason why taking so long to assess. Flipping disgrace 😡

in reply to Tia-01

Emails sent to MP, have not even had a response

Can you get blue badge at the lower rate?

in reply to Plenty

If you get 8 points or more on the lower rate you will qualify automatically

Aww well done! Its stressful when you go through the assessment. I ended up with enhanced daily living & standard mobility but my 3 years will be up next year & not holding my breath as Im back working again, although I still suffer from fatigue which is a total nightmare! xx

in reply to Emeraldgal

I'm hoping at some stage to be well enough to return to work but I know I have a scan with contrast in July and they are already talking of another operation which I must say makes a return to work seem like a pipe dream.

Hello my lovely,

I am so happy for you!!! Get yourself a blue badge now. Even if they question your ability to drive due to your brain problems. Just tell them other people drive you places and need close parking because you have problems walking long distances.

Fantastic news my friend,

Vikki

in reply to Danger19

Have already applied and been accepted. Thanks all the advice I can get and have had is really helpful

You are more than welcome my lovely. So now you'll be entitled to Employment Support Allowence, no more Jobseekers and all the stupid things that go with it like having to look for a non existent job for so many hours a day.

I am so happy for you,

Vikki

Esa is separate, been asking them for 4 months for an assessment, not even had the form to fill in yet just loads of excuses.

I was working and claiming UC but due to sickness I have been unable to work for last 7 months, I have only just done Fitness for work assessment after handing regular sick notes in, that’s 7 months since first day of sickness, I got my reply within a week. It’s not called ESA anymore and it has to be done through Universal Credit, It’s just recently changed

in reply to Jeana2

You should get back pay I hope. I've paid into the system for 35 yrs. I have just put in a big complaint saying I ve been suffering hardships which is true, next one will mention disability discrimination and see where that gets me.

Jeana2 profile image
Jeana2 in reply to

Yes I got it all back dated, was a struggle financially though and I couldn’t keep up with my bills, I had to get into debt just to survive, a horrible time.

in reply to Jeana2

Yup, been the same myself over the moon I've got standard pip both parts. What a joke that I'm made up with now having enough money to cover my bills lol

The PIP could help to speed up the ESA as you now have evidence that you have a disability that you require benefit in order to manage daily personal tasks rather than just a sick certificate . There should be absolutely no excuse for any delay. Remember all the waiting and chasing about already negatively affects your official disability, I would use that as an argument against any delay. I didn't get my ESA until I was accepted for PIP. Mind you I wasn't given it for my head injury. It was because of my Bipolar Affective Disorder, yes I'm officially nuts but I've got no issues from my head injury so I must be doing something right. If I can help with anything please just ask.

I wish you a lifetime of peace, happiness, good health and good luck,

Vikki

in reply to Danger19

Officially nuts lol ( got me laughing out loud) something I don't do enough of, got a close friend with bipolar, apart from brain heamorrage I also have polysystic kidney disease and for good measure got Lyme's disease a few years ago I go by the name if Lucky. I'll put on my log for universal credit what you have said. Thanks

I like the nickname lucky, gave me a laugh too. My mate Keith bought me a necklace of St Jude when I was diagnosed as nuts. St Jude is the patron saint of lost causes so that tells you everything there is to know about me. When I was first diagnosed he sent me a text message saying "Vik, someone's written a song about you." When I played it it was Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal, cheeky sod. So hope that gives you a laugh. Have a great day my friend.
