Someone has just sent me this. It’s about PIP assessment and why they don’t recognise mental health disabilities like hidden symptoms of brain injury.

Thank you - so many people here and seem to not be awarded PIP because the assessors don’t understand brain injury :/ lets hope it can be looked at 
Ohh my favourite subject my husband fir the third time scores 0 just got letter today total farce as 3 days after his PIP assessment had to go for a health assessment DWP again and dr agrees that Mark needed a companion for him to attend this assessment and I got awarded my expenses. Got award today he has been put into support group and won’t have to keep going to dr for sick note he may be reassessed in the future and may not.
How the Donald Duck can one day he’s been deemed to have limited capability then another pen pusher from DWP say he’s 💯 all singing all dancing cabable of doing everything without unaided!😡

So many posts say the same thing. It’s very odd the number of people with brain injury and mental health issues who have decision overturned a appeal. Either the assessors aren’t properly trained about hidden disability or the assessments are designed not to test for hidden disability? I’m vry pleased you were able to find a positive outcome.

Had high hopes for you.
Nightmare! Was on phone over an hour asking for their reasons for scoring and mandatory reconsideration. I went through each one with them. Got a message after that saying they will look at it again. I definitely think it’s a standard letter they send scoring everyone 0 then hope you won’t apoeal. Spoke to brain injury team and that will do a report to go with mandatory reconsideration and will be with us if it goes to appeal. Time for change in this system and rapid!!

Hi Tia, change tact, ask the DWP for a copy of his Report re: support group, send it to PIP as evidence, bugger all they can do 
Husband got awarded PIP without having to go to appeal they reconsidered and remarkably his 0 points rose to 28 in total - higher rate living and lower rate mobility.
I asked for report from DWP still waiting but just goes to show you they are just scoring people 0 hoping they don’t put in reconsideration or appeal. Unfortunately some people don’t have anyone fighting their corner so just give up my husband would have done so as wouldn’t know what to do. It’s so wrong 😡

I think this only happened as I told them I had a witness to what was said and done at assessment and that he’d been to another assessment on the Friday of same week for ESA and I got expenses paid as Dr deemed that my husband could not attended assessment without me.He got awarded ESA higher rate/put into support group and doesn’t have to do work related activities as they said he is unfit for work due to all his cognitive impairments. X
I wonder if the assessors do know, but choose to record information in their report that will equal 0 points.
They are not in a job to give out funding and I think they see brain injured people as an easy target, in hope we will not go to tribunal.
The assessors need to be held accountable or they will and do keep doing it again and again.

Apparently 80% get 0 score I have asked for a copy of my husbands assessment as I want to see what nurse recorded. It’s not the person at assessment that makes the decision it’s DWP😩 however the health assessment that I was at 3 days later for DWP re his ESA the Dr there made the decision that he was limited capabilities for work and work related activity and has therefore been put into the support group not breeding to send in sick notes unless they wish to reassess in the future.
So my question to DWP is why oh why is it not up to the nurse/dr at assessment to do the same 🤔
I will keep you posted when I receive copy of assessment.

The process was found discriminatory last year.
Someone has started a petition to ask the government to investigate the lproblems with it. They said it doesn’t measure hidden mental health issues. Hopefully they can change the way the assessments are done. Thank you for reading it.
Yea that's kind of the point... This has been on going. The PIP process as a whole was found to be discriminatory against those suffering with mental illnesses in Dec 2017. The high court ruled the "Tories' disability benefit changes ‘blatantly discriminate’ against mental health patients".

Hi everyone last night on the ITV news the government has said that people of 67 will no longer need to be reviewed so once you reached the age of 67 PIP willl be for life. Let’s hope it’s not U turned and that other people of a younger generation will receive a more liberal approval. Liz 🌹
this article turned up in today's Guardian. Amber Rudd in her latest speech says "government intend to change the landscape for disabled people with a more forgiving benefits regime", and acknowledged "disabled people feel put on trial for seeking support". Could the tide be turning, and could the government be focusing on a more humanitarian approach? I shan't hold my breath! The whole system needs restructuring with more experienced Assessors.
My advice to PIP claimants - take it all the way to tribunal.
And let a judge and independent doctor/health care worker make the decision.
Plus it’s another way to hi light the wrong doings of the system.
Thanks for sharing. I've read all these posts with interest. I'm currently in a situation where come 18 December I will have zero income as that's when my employment ends. Dismissed because of ill health. Occupational Health report deems me to be unfit for work for the foreseeable. Yet PIP rejected me (rejected twice -after major brain surgery in 2017 and after stroke in August last year). I have asked for mandatory reconsideration and I'm waiting for result. Work told me to apply for ESA and I was rejected by them too.
