Activities for BI group

I am going to be organising a Christmas quiz and a short walk for the BI group I go to both hopefully before Christmas depending on weather for the walk. One of other service users was asked to plan and do a reef making session yesterday which gave me the idea.

Only I’m not very creative with ideas and I am hopeless with directions so the walk should be fun in area I don’t no that well. I had wanted to plan outings but have no idea where to start with that well I do but I’d have to be checking I’m doing it ok. So I’m doing a quiz which will be a Christmas one and depending how many people are there I may do a few teams. There is one woman who goes who HATES losing which should be interesting especially as I would love to see her reaction if she lost. No idea who knows what or anything so just got to decide on teams and make sure it’s fair and see what happens.

For the walk I don’t know the area the group is in that well so the man who runs group has come up with a walk which has set route so I’ve got to find out the route and lead way which considering I’m useless with directions will be a good test for me.

Hi.

A tip with organising the walk. Have you done the walk yourself? If so have you considered if it is suitable for who is attending the walk.

Make notes on any different terrain that may effect any users. Also any points of interest can be noted.

Oh one last thing ....good luck and enjoy

No I haven’t but will before the group does it. Thanks for advice also doing it myself will give me chance to know the route. Need to find out who will be going to see if we will need any breaks or anything. For most 3 mile will be ok but odd ones may need a break. Also need to check how many going to see which staff are needed. Also the man who runs group has said he wants it to be my planning and everything so I’m thinking of asking him to stay at back so he doesn’t end up guiding way like he’s used to cos he will know way better than me at minute.

Hoping this could lead to me planning outings in future didn’t jumps straight in with that as I know there’s more to consider so want to show I can manage the easiest things then do more.

Try and see if there is a "walk leader" course available in your area.

These can be free of charge through various health organisations to promote getting into exercise.

It is very rewarding leading a group walking but remember to enjoy it and have fun.
