I am 53 years young and was told (last week) that my recent sudden onset headache was a result of Hydrocephalus, something that I didn't realise I had. The Doctors seem to think I have had it since I had a bout of viral Meningitis about 10 years ago, but no-one has ever informed me of this. I am now trying to get my head around this (sorry about the pun) and having to live with yet another condition, I already have COPD and Osteoarthritis, how does everyone copy with more conditions they didn't realise they had?

Hi Mgharris. It really IS that basic I'm afraid. Everyone here has had to 'Get their head around' a sudden, unexpected diagnosis of brain injury, many of us whilst coping with other disorders.
It's difficult, and many of us never fully accept our new status because our pre-injury lives were so much more attractive. But by coming here each day I feel less isolated, as I know I'm among friends who're facing similar issues every day.
I also have Osteoarthritis and had viral meningitis 20+years ago which left me with chronic headaches, so really do empathise with your struggles. And a brain haemorrhage wasn't in my scheme of things either !
Stay around Mg, and hopefully you'll feel the comfort and reassurance of this brilliant community............. Cat x
Hi mgharris. I suffer from recurrent hydrocephalus. Mine has been caused by a large AVM (arteriovenous malformation) in my Cerebellum. This blocked the normal drainage routes for CSF. I began to have huge headaches and vomiting when I was 12. 2 years later I had my first VP Shunt fitted after a CT scan showed the build-up of CSF was about to cause a brain haemorrhage. Interestingly I also had viral meningitis as a child.
Cheers
Lulu
